The Good Initiatives

www.ColoradoCounts.com
Colorado is facing an attack on our political system like none we have ever experienced. If we do not win this battle, we will lose our constitutional right to a republican form of government and the current party structure will be worthless. Therefore, we must win. With a successful petition gathering effort, the 2024 ballot will offer Coloradans an opportunity to counter this attack with the Good Initiatives: #201 Prohibit Ranked Choice Voting, #202 Preserving Party Nominations, and #278 Closing Party Primaries.

The Bad Initiatives seek to establish an All-Candidate Primary Election where candidates can only petition onto the ballot. This ‘jungle primary' election would be conducted with Ranked Choice Voting, also known as Instant Runoff Voting, which has destroyed the purpose and purity of elections in several other states. Six states have banned RCV through legislation and Alaska is working toward repealing RCV on their 2024 ballot.

We often hear "The best defense is a good offense." The Good Initiatives are the answer to winning this battle at the ballot box in November. Good vs Bad. Whoever gets the most votes wins. However, we have to get onto the ballot first.

That's where you come in. We need money to print and distribute the ballots. We need People to circulate the petitions for signatures. 125,000 good signatures by July 31, 2024! It is a lofty goal, and the stakes couldn't be higher if we fail. So we must succeed!

Donate to cover the cost of printing and distributing the petitions today! Visit our website at www.ColoradoCounts.com to sign up to help.

What is Ranked Choice Voting?

In short, ranked-choice voting results in votes being tossed out, introduces confusion and uncertainty to voting, and results in diminished voter confidence in our elections.

Ranked Choice Voting or Instant Runoff Voting is a method of casting and tabulating votes which allows you to “rank” the candidates from favorite to least favorite. (1-5) Sounds Ok, right? But guess what? If your first ranked candidate isn’t the highest ranked by a “majority” (more than 50%) they take your second ranked choice instead and count your vote for them. They continue to tabulate the votes in rounds and if you have chosen to only rank 1 or 2 candidates, they throw your vote away as “exhausted”. How do you feel about your vote being given to someone you don’t really want? How do you feel about them throwing your vote away?

The outcome of this is that the most popular candidate often does not win.

The Solution = The Good Initiatives.

1. #201 Prohibit Ranked Choice Voting

Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution prohibiting the use of any voting method where voters are allowed to rank candidates and ballots are counted in rounds until a single candidate is elected in any election in Colorado for a local, state, or federal office?

2. #202 Ballot Access Through Caucus and Assembly (Preserves the parties' nomination process for Candidates)

Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution concerning the right of candidates for any local, state, and federal public office in Colorado to gain access to the primary and general election ballots through a partisan political party caucus and assembly process, in addition to accessing the ballot by collecting signatures to petition onto the ballot?

3. #278 Primary Elections for Major Political Parties (CLOSE THE PRIMARY!)

Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution concerning eliminating the ability of unaffiliated voters to participate in a major political party's primary election, and, in connection therewith, requiring each major political party to restrict its primary election to voters affiliated with the party and establishing that a major party candidate who receives a plurality of the votes cast at a primary election becomes the party’s nominee in the general election?
