I am a teacher at Paul R. Baird Middle School in Ludlow, Massachusetts and have been put on paid leave pending termination of my employment for telling the truth to parents about their eleven-year-old child being called a gender name other than the name she was given at birth. Twenty-one years ago, I was recruited to join the staff at Baird the same school I also attended. For the first twelve years, I utilized special training I obtained working with students with severe behavioral interventions; and created a trauma supportive environment that was successful and continues today.  For the past nine years, I have taught social studies for sixth grade students. As a teacher, my first obligation is to my students. . I love what I do and have never considered it work and rather answering a calling.  However, my school is asking me to lie to the parents of an eleven-year-old student, a practice that I believe is deeply harmful to them and to any person who seeks to nurture the virtues of empathy and understanding; this request lacks ethical standing.  The school has taken the authority as the parent and has made the parent the enemy. On March 19, 2021, the school’s principal served me with an email stating I was “being put on paid administrative leave effective immediately for conduct unbecoming a teacher related to your inappropriate communications with the parents of a student" without presentation of any evidence.  I was warned that “this meeting may result in disciplinary action; you are reminded of your contractual right to have union representation at the meeting.”  I attended that meeting and answered all of their questions with my attorney present.  I was served a second letter on April 6, 2021, requesting another meeting regarding the first letter, however, this time the principal wanted to ask, “further questions regarding inappropriate communication with either parents or others regarding an individual’s gender identify contrary to the student’s request.”  I have had no difficulty answering the questions and continue to stand in truth.  My local union, LEA, has not provide me with any support or follow up.  I have served my union my entire career, 12 of those I served as chair of the negotiation team.  I am aware of the support I should have been provided. I am concerned for the dozens of teachers during my time at Baird who shared with me that they have been reproached by colleagues and union members for expressing views that are not aligned with the new ideology of relinquishing children to "the state." I ask most humbly for your financial support for attorney and other legal fees that I am personally incurring as I stand up for these children and their families. -

Matthew 18:4-6 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.  And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receive me.  But those whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (KJV) Thank you for your prayers and support.

On May 19,2021, Principal Stacy Monette terminated my employment with the Ludlow Public Schools with support of the Superintendant Todd Gazda.  My attorney, Frank McNamara,  will be filing a suit against the Ludlow Public Schools for wrongful termination.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
