Reverend Peter Lane passed peacefully on Sunday 15th January following a short illness, reuniting with his Heavenly Father for eternal rest after 53 years on Earth. He leaves a large, loving family and countless individuals who were touched by his kindness, wisdom, empathy and faith. Peter chose to minister to those who were most in need, making a conscious decision to share God’s loving word with those excluded from society rather than those who could provide greater worldly rewards. As a result he spent his ministry in one of the most underprivileged districts of Leeds and regularly ministered to prisoners, troubled youth, homeless people and those experiencing mental or physical illness with no consideration of treating them less favourably than any other sinner who seeks to be closer to the Lord.
As a family we have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from the community he served, including those to whom he offered counselling, spiritual guidance or practical assistance. From HomeStart, youth work, meals for the elderly, fundraising and prison outreach, Peter believed in ministering to people’s bodies as well as souls. Many people have asked how they can assist with funeral arrangements and support for his distraught wife, Kerry, at this overwhelming time. While your prayers or kind words are more than enough, for those that are able to offer financial assistance we have set up this fundraiser. Due to the type of ministry Peter offered, he sadly was not in a position to leave his family in a comfortable position to cover the expenses of his passing.
As a family we have chosen a funds and prayers organisation to be in keeping with Peter’s message and to emphasise the love, prayers and support that have already been such a healing part of the grieving process.
With love,
Reverend Lane’s heartbroken family.
He is survived by his wife, mother, siblings, five daughters and (soon to be) ten grandchildren.
