What would you do if speaking your mind could cost more than you earn in a year?

Would you still speak? Or would you stay silent?

That is the question at the heart of this lawsuit.

Currently, I am defending myself against a defamation lawsuit filed by a congressional candidate over statements I made regarding matters that affected my family and that I believed voters had a right to know.

In the complaint, my Biblical worldview was characterized as "bigoted and antiquated."

To be clear, whether someone agrees with my beliefs is beside the point.

The issue is whether expressing those beliefs should come with a price tag so high that ordinary Americans become afraid to speak at all.

Because if defending your speech costs more than you earn in a year, how many people will choose silence instead?

That is the real danger.

Freedom is rarely lost all at once. It erodes one voice at a time.

The chilling effect isn't when someone loses a lawsuit. The chilling effect is when thousands of people watch what happens and think: "I'd better keep my mouth shut."

It's when a mother decides not to speak.

A pastor decides not to preach.

A citizen decides not to post.

A whistleblower decides not to come forward.

Not because they are wrong.

Not because they are lying.

Not because they have been proven false.

But because they cannot afford the cost of defending themselves.

That is how freedom fades. Not with a bang. With silence.

I am not a celebrity. I am not a politician. I am a single mother from Wyoming facing legal costs that could exceed my annual income.

I have already taken a second job because I believe this fight is worth making and because I refuse to ask others to sacrifice while I do not.

But I cannot do this alone.

This lawsuit has become about something larger than me.

It is about whether everyday Americans can speak openly about issues, experiences, public figures, and sincerely held beliefs without the threat of financial ruin hanging over their heads.
