I’m starting this fundraiser on behalf of my mother-in-law, Teresa Yoakum, who is currently undergoing treatment in California for osteomyelitis of the lumbar spine—a serious condition that went undetected and was misdiagnosed for nearly six months.

Teresa is facing an incredibly difficult time physically, emotionally, and financially. Living on a fixed income, she simply does not have the means to cover the full cost of her medical care.

In addition to her ongoing treatment expenses, Teresa must urgently relocate to a new care facility within the next five days, as her current facility is unable to provide the level of care her condition requires. This move must happen by April 1st so she can begin receiving proper treatment and work toward becoming well enough to relocate closer to family in Las Vegas as soon as possible.

Her doctors believe she will have a significantly higher chance of recovery if she is near family who can visit consistently and support her through this process. Her loved ones in Las Vegas are ready and able to be there for her every day.

The cost of this urgent relocation is $3,800—an amount that is currently out of reach for our family. Once Teresa is stable enough to travel, it will cost an additional $11,000–$15,500 to safely relocate her and my father-in-law to Nevada without any lapse in care or insurance coverage.
