This is a fundraiser for my friend Mahmoud Bitar to cover his children’s educational expenses. If you’re reading this, you probably know who he is. For those who don’t, Mahmoud is a hero Syrian refugee who saved my life in Syria back in August of 2013, and is currently stuck in Türkiye while things stabilize in Syria. He used to run a carpentry shop that he started and employed other refugees, but it was destroyed in the big earthquake in February of 2023, along with everything he owned. The blessing is that his entire family survived, and now two of his children are in university and one is in high school. 

Nour is his eldest daughter, a third-year student in the English Translation and Interpreting Department at Kırklareli University in the city of Kırklareli. She needs £700 per month to cover her monthly accommodation, bus travel to and from school, meals and pocket money.

Majed is his middle son, a fourth-year student of aviation management at Iskenderun Technical University. He needs $700/month to cover his accommodation, bus transportation to and from the university, food, and personal expenses.

Maher, his youngest son, is a final-year high school student studying languages. He needs $300/month to cover his bus transportation to and from the school and personal expenses.

This fundraising campaign will run from February until June.

Mahmoud has applied for a work permit from the Turkish government, but while he waits for it, he is not allowed to work. So he needs some friends that can step up and donate to keep his kids in school.
