Jamie Aho suffered a stroke the morning of October 26th. He was airlifted from Brainerd to St.Paul to receive care for the stroke. Due to the stroke, his brain started to swell and he will need to undergo a craniectomy  to relieve pressure on his brain this afternoon. We are asking for donations to help offset the expenses for the family during this difficult time. Please keep Jamie and his family in your prayers.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Jamie’s Journey Update- praising God for answered prayers as we all prepare for Jamie’s transition home to be together with his family all under one roof. 🩵 It now may be possible for Jamie to have the bone flap surgery before he goes home. We should hear more this week. We’ll update as we learn more. Please pray this prayer is answered. 🩵

We are thankful for another family supper tonight with Jamie @ his sister Melissa’s house. Our mom & dad were able to join us this time! We also had surprise guests- my cousin Jeff & his wife Rosy (Rosalyn). Our family is so very grateful for all Jeff has done to make sure Jamie has an accessible bathroom when he returns home. You are such a blessing, thank you! 🩵

Today marks another transition with Jamie’s little boys Nels & Jack going back home after staying with us for the past 5 weeks. We will miss them & are thankful for the time we had together. 🩵

Again, we are excited that Jamie will go home in the next weeks & we pray that the transition is smooth & that Jamie & his family adjust to this new life. God makes all things new & we know he has a plan for Jamie. We know Jamie has been shining his light @ Courage Kenny to staff & other clients and they will miss him so. Please pray for Jamie, Tamara, Clay, Joanna, Naomi, Nels, Jack & our family as we continue this journey trusting in God’s healing hands. Jamie’s Journey Update- whatever may come, God’s love overcomes. God continues to hold us close on this journey. March 7th is the target date that Jamie will join his family at home in Wadena. That’s one month away from this Wednesday!! Praise God the day is closer & closer. 🩵Unfortunately, his bone flap surgery can’t happen before he goes home because the top of his head is not completely healed yet. He’ll see the surgeon again before he goes home in hopes of scheduling the surgery during the month of March. Please pray that healing happens quickly. 🩵🙏🩵

In the meantime, we continue to find J🩵Y in the extra family time. Jamie was able to go to his sister Melissa’s house today for a family lunch. His first time in a real house in over 3 months. A home cooked meal at a dining room table. Jamie was also very glad to help his brother in law Dave, niece Kendell and her boyfriend Zach put together a cabinet while he was here. 🩵We are so proud of Jamie’s hard work & progress in his therapy sessions! Please pray that he continues to see progress as he gains more skills. 🩵🙏🩵Thanks for visiting, sending cards, texts, calling- they all mean so much to Jamie & all of us! Sending love to all who are supporting us!!

Jamie’s Journey Update- March 7th is the potential date that Jamie can finally go back home to his house to be with his family again. Until then, we continue to make Courage Kenny the best home we can as Jamie continues to recover. We are enjoying the extra time with family & sharing meals together! We hope that soon Jamie can leave Courage Kenny for a few hours to come to his sisters house in Ramsey to spend time with family. Jamie continues to work hard & is making some progress each day. We know God is in control & is the mighty healer. We continue to pray for complete healing. So proud of his hard work & positive attitude in this journey. He’s also shining God’s love to other clients & staff @ Courage Kenny. 🩵

Jamie has some appointments the end of January to help determine when he can have his bone flap surgery to get his skull put back on. We pray that can happen in mid February to allow recovery before he returns home.

When he returns home to Wadena, outpatient rehab will continue in the area. We pray that Staples may be a good fit as it’s close to home. 🩵

Jamie continues to love visitors! Evenings & the weekends tend to work better based on his therapy schedule.

A huge thanks to Tamara’s sister Carmelle for caring for Jamie & Tamara’s kids over the last few months. We are so thankful. The kids will now spend more time in the cities with Jamie & Tamara with the older kids spending some time at home in Wadena with family support.

Thanks again for your prayers, support & love as we continue this journey. God is in control & we are so grateful Jamie is still here with us. 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵

Jamie’s Journey Update

First of all Jamie wants to thank everyone for all the support, he says being here has helped not only physically progress but mentally accept what the stroke has done. He says there are others here that are worse off and continue to struggle and have little to no support. Jamie says that him and Tamara have met so many caring patients, and family and staff.

Our parents were there this weekend, Sheila Aho Behnke was here and I spent most of the weekend with him.

We did learn Friday evening that our uncle Tommy our moms brother died please keep our family in your prayers. We have so many memories of Tommy and will treasure those memories.

Jamie continues to keep busy with therapy, Saturday he walked over 250 feet and what a fun time that was to watch, he also enjoyed some good food. Please keep Tamara, their children, in your prayers especially in your thoughts as their birthdays at this age can be a big deal as Jack has a golden birthday tomorrow and Nels has a birthday in 3 weeks.

Jamie has an upcoming appointment this week with neurosurgeon to discuss putting his bone flap back in place. We are still praying for a discharge date for early March.

Jamie still enjoys visitors.

Jamie asks that we pray for other patients around him that would heal and progress, that he would continue to heal and progress. He maintains such a positive attitude and determination and again SISU!

Jamie was able to break out of rehab for a few hours to be with us as a family and all 8 of us siblings were together again! Jamie was able to see the surgeon this past week & learned that his next bone flap surgery will tentatively take place in late January or early February. He’ll continue rehab therapy over the next two months. He enjoys having visitors & hearing from all of you! Evenings & Sundays are the best times to visit based on his therapy schedule. Please continue to pray for Jamie, Tamara, the kids and the family as we move ahead on this journey. A heartfelt thank you to Northgate Church for all the love & support. Jamie’s fighting to get home & we are supporting him every step of the way! Merry Christmas! May God bless you & keep you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Jamie’s Journey Saturday was another busy day. Jamie had a barium swallow test done this morning, it’s a test that follows to make sure he is swallowing correctly and not aspirating into lungs and he passed that test so he now can drink thin liquids, he could finally have coffee from Starbucks today. Soon he will get his French Press again! He has enjoyed eating pumpkin pie with lots of whipped cream! He was busy Friday and today with physical, occupational and speech therapy. It’s amazing all the wonderful equipment they have here at Courage Kenny. Tonight his brother in law Randy shaved him and did a fine job.The swelling on his head has gone down so much. It’s been so nice to have so many family members and a close friend visiting the last few days, he loves company. Thank you again for everything !

Jamie’s journey

This thanksgiving week we are so thankful for the next step as today he moves to Abbott Courage Kenny for 24 days to start more intensive therapy. He spent 8 days at Regency, it was a needed step in his journey. We continue to pray for more use of his left side but only God and time will tell us that. He also had his trach removed today so he was happy about that. We will not be updating daily but will when there is news to share. Thank you all again for the tremendous outpouring of support, we are so blessed by our family, church, friends and communities.

We want to help them with any additional out of pocket medical expenses or additional costs that may occur.

Jamie’s journey Sunday has brought more welcome visitors and another trip outside in the uncomfortable chair and helmet but he wants out of the room so bad. Again we are embracing the baby steps as we don’t know the outcome or recovery time of his left side which we hope includes movement of left arm and leg. We pray that soon will know more about rehab facility for the next step in the process. Thank you all for your support it means so much to Jamie, Tamara, their kids, our parents, his siblings, family and friends.

Jamie had a good day. He had lots of family visiting, still has the trach capped and breathing on his own. He is eating minced/thickened foods. He was happy to get outside again to enjoy the fresh air. We ask for prayers that he is able to go to rehab facility soon! Jamie is so determined and ready to start working his recovery! Thanks for all your prayers and support!

Today has been a good day. Jamie’s trach is capped and he is breathing on his own. He worked with PT/OT this morning and stood up!

He did ask for a ride outside so his sisters Sheila  and Wendy wheeled him first in hallway and then outside, they may have set off an alarm but staff was so very helpful to get him outdoors. He really enjoyed the fresh air, even asked to smell the leaves, oh what we take for granted. Blessings every day.

Jamie had a pretty uneventful day, he worked with physical and occupational therapy. He also was able to eat again without problems, drinking water and milk and I’m sure getting ready for his first cup of coffee. Also Jamie was excited to have 2 of his close friends visit him today and I’m sure they were just as happy to see him. I will leave you with one of our family’s favorite verses

Jeremiah 29:1111 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jamie is being transferred to long term facility this evening. This is a big step as he has been at the hospital in ICU since October 26th the day of his stroke. During his time there at the facility they will work on weaning him off needing the vent and oxygen for his tracheostomy and the feeding tube in his stomach. Once that occurs he can then go to rehab to start physically getting his body back in shape and boy is he determined. One step at a time, he’s got such a great attitude, great support and love of family and friends. God is good!

Jamie did well today. He is sitting up so much better and not having to use the vent with his trach, does have support of oxygen. He will likely be transferred to long term care facility tomorrow to help get off the support of trach and feeding tube. Once he’s strong enough can be transferred to a rehab facility to start rigorous physical rehab. He did write he wants the best and hardest rehab! He does enjoy all the support and has enjoyed hearing from family and friends. Again we want to thank those who have donated to givesendgo and to the account at Mid Central Federal. Again thanks to God, one step at a time Jamie will get there.

Jamie has done great today. He is happy that his hair is now gone with the assistance of family. Jamie has been stable today.
He is sitting upright in his chair and doing well.
The swelling on his brain has remained stable, will continue to watch.
He has written that he is thankful to everyone for all your prayers.
Please keep praying for strength for him, as he continues to process what has occurred with the stroke, the strength to push forward so he can start rehab and get physical strength back.
We ask for prayers for decreased secretions, and to be weaned off less use of vent with his trach.
Please again keep Tamara, their kids, our family and again all the great family and friends who love him in our prayers.

The swelling on his head that I mentioned yesterday can be common after surgery. They will continue to watch it.

He is resting now after these procedures but will be sleepy from all the sedation given but he is responding to family members again with his hand and gestures.

We pray that he continues to heal, he becomes more alert and can start therapies.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.

He has some swelling on the right side where the craniotomy was done, they say it’s cerebral spinal fluid, stable for now will recheck in 2 days.

He is scheduled tomorrow afternoon for a tracheotomy to help with his breathing. Also tomorrow likely will get a feeding tube placed.

They are also doing another chest X-ray as left lung sounds diminished.

Update 11/2
November 3, 2023
facebook X

Jamie has been stable today. They decreased his sedation medication throughout the day. He continues to respond to questions with right hand or shaking/nodding his head. They did another bronchoscopy and removed secretions again but was less than yesterday. He will remain on antibiotics and we are awaiting cultures results to ensure he is on the correct therapy for the pneumonia.

The continued prayers and support has been such a blessing to Jamie and the family!!

Update 11/1
November 2, 2023
facebook X

Today has had its ups and downs for Jamie. They were able to take out his breathing tube this morning but shortly after ended up on BIPAP to support his breathing. As the day progressed his breathing was inadequate and they made the decision to put the breathing tube back in. X Ray showed he had fluid on one side of his lung and the ICU doctor performed a bronchoscopy to remove the fluids from his lung. They did more cultures from the fluid in his lung and have started Jamie on 2 antibiotics to treat for pneumonia. We know Jamie is in Gods hands and we ask that you continue to prayer for healing for Jamie, Tamara and the family.

Update 10/31
November 1, 2023
facebook X

Jamie remains stable. Unfortunately they were not able to remove the breathing tube today because they felt he wasn’t alert enough and they want to be cautious not to remove too early. He was able to breathe on his own for 8 hours today and tolerated well. They will let him rest tonight again and will reassess removing the breathing tube tomorrow. He continues to be lightly sedated. They are monitoring his blood pressure closely and was started on medication to maintain his blood pressures. He continues to respond to our questions and is opening his eyes more, especially when we come into the room. Thanks be to God today, on Jamie’s last two assessments by his nurse he was able to feel pain to left foot and hand. This is progress from not feeling anything. Please continue to prayer for healing for Jamie and comfort his family. God’s presence is felt with all the prayers and blessing!!

Update 10/30
October 30, 2023
facebook X

Jamie remains stable. CT scans remain stable as well. He is still intubated and sedated. They turned down his sedation today and he was able to breathe on his own for 4 hours today. They are giving him a break for the rest of the night and hoping to remove the breathing tube tomorrow if all goes well and he is less sedated. He was started on antibiotics today for a fever, fluid on his lungs and his culture did grow some bacteria. Jamie has been communicating with hand squeezing, thumbs up or head shaking or, nodding. Thank you for all the continued prayers!! Our God is an awesome God and prayers work!!!

Update 10/29
October 29, 2023
facebook X

Jamie is stable as he was yesterday, CT scan was stable this morning. He is squeezing my hand and appears to be resting. Tomorrow will start the weaning off sedation, please pray for this to go well and again for all the tough days ahead.
