Campaign Created by: Debbie Tokarz

Monthly Goal: CAD $150,000
Raised this month: CAD $0
Total Raised: CAD $ 0

For seven years I have been researching self sustaining homes as part of my retirement plan. I will be 64 this year and I am very healthy. Born and raised on the farm taking my skills with me through life. gardening, herbal medicines, dehydrating, canning foods and more. I want to retire giving back daily.

Recently I sold my home and its not enough money to buy land and build a self sustaining home. The prices of land have gone up immensely. I need to be close to a large city and I've chosen Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The reason for being close to the city is so people have easy access and if needed we can car pool to get to the gardens. (Gas prices are high)

I will use all the sale money from my home for this retirement dream to serve others. To build a self sustaining home and to garden 5-10 acres. I want to teach others how to garden and can, dehydrate , make jams and so much more for themselves. Once they learn they too will teach as well.

In exchange they will come and help in the gardens at their convivence and take the vegetables they need for their families. No money exchange just work together.

Possession of my home is third week in May and I know I won't have enough time this year but I do need to start preparing. 5-10 acres of land on average is selling for $100,000. I still need to buy tools, and garden tractors, the land and through the winter I will start preparing searching for land if I don't find before, attending auctions and looking for garden tools, letting people know what I am doing and rounding up volunteers to help do the labour part.

The majority of the self sustaining home will be build by volunteers and friends. Others from across Canada will come to help and I will supply food.

I don't have any picture because I haven't started yet but I certainly will provide a group of the journey as we begin. I will also so a blog.

But  I need you to help me help others. Currently I have $160K 1 I know to some this may seem far fetched but I believe we are all here with purpose and for reason, this is mine. The remainder of my life will be to give my life to serve others.

When I pray I ask the Lord to tell me what he wants me to do, This is what he tells me. To spend the balance of my life serving others and teaching.

The house will be an "earthship' built from recyclable items like tires and bottles. There are several in Canada now. Check out Canadian earthships

Update #1 Hope Gardens
April 14, 2022
facebook twitter

Well its only been 6 days but I've spoken to many. People who are intersted in my location or where the land will be so they can help, other like that they will be able to do something they know in exchange for food.

Still looking for the perfect land. The 12 acres that I was going to purchase on little manitou has an elevation way below the saskwater and RM requirements which means I would have to haul clay in to raise it to build. The well that was dug is not know if its salt or fresh water. Walk water isn't going to be good for vegetables. So that al would be an added expense. The owner never had a topographical survey done and if I spend the money to do it it kind of takes away from the goals.

I checked on solar for the house and an average f $15-18K they say to be completely off grid, however I also spoke to a fellow from California who does how water/solar power and that's something i might be interested in because 1. cost is a fraction and breakdown is rare.

I have may calls out to relators regarding land. Hopefully I can find something - the new owners get my sold home May 19th.

I'll keep you posted
