Thanks for being here! We are Mary and Eric Hammett. We live in Charlotte, NC. We celebrated seven years of marriage this past July, and for much of that time have wanted to grow our family. We have always thought that adoption may be a part of our story one day, but it was not until this year (Spring 2025) that we really started considering stepping forward in faith to pursue it. Almost immediately after we decided to begin moving forward towards adoption, door after door opened wide and FAST! 

Right around the same time that we started thinking and praying about adoption (April/May 2025), we felt this pull to sell our house and move quickly. There was a house that came up that we fell in love with and would give us much more space to grow in. We were not planning to move, but the home we found financially made a lot of sense and came at just the right time. From the first viewing of the new house to closing on the sale of our old house (and purchase of the new one) was 6 weeks, start to finish. We have seen evidence of God’s hand in every step along the way, since there is no way we could have made ANY of those things happen on our own or that quickly.

Amidst the whirlwind of moving, we were invited to an information session with our adoption agency that was months sooner than when we originally thought we would hear back (July 2025 when we initially expected not to be invited to one until January-March of 2026). After that, we felt confident that we should keep stepping forward as doors were opening, so we filled out our initial application (July-August 2025) and then just recently got approved (October 2025) to move on to the home study portion!

So now that you’re all caught up…here we are! We’re continuing to step forward as the doors are opening ahead and trusting fully that the Lord will make it abundantly clear what He has in store for us next as He has so graciously done already so far. We consider it a great blessing to even have the opportunity to adopt, and are grateful for the abundant support of so many of our friends and family members so far! 

Financially, the whole process is a big undertaking that we were not expecting in such a short amount of time. The estimated cost of a domestic adoption in the state of NC is between $36,000-$45,000. We have been saving ever since we started pursuing adoption and plan to apply for grants as well, but most grants do not accept applications until we have an approved home study (Lord-willing, this would be at the end of April). So we have begun fundraising and will continue to over the next year.

Although we were not expecting to be nearly this far along in the process this quickly, we are confident that this is where the Lord is leading us in this season and have no doubts that He will provide the means necessary for that which He has called us to.
