There are moments in life when you realize that survival doesn’t always come from your own decisions alone – sometimes, it's the sacrifice of others that carries you through. My mother didn’t just save my life once – she gave it to me three times.

I was born in 1996. My early years were marked by fear and violence. When I was just two years old, my biological father tried to kill my mother. She managed to escape with me and my sister – alone and with nothing. From that day on, she raised us as a single mother, fighting through countless obstacles, never once letting us doubt her love or dedication. She taught me that no matter how deep the valley, you can always rise again – when you have the strength of family.

But her life wasn’t easy either. She gave everything for me and my sister – in the darkest of times, she was the rock that never crumbled. Today, I’m an adult, close to finishing my law degree. But the lessons from those early years are still with me – they’ve shaped who I am.

When I went through my own crisis – after making a terrible financial decision that left me with €50,000 in debt – I was on the brink of ruin. I didn’t know where to turn. Fear paralyzed me. But when I finally told my mother the truth, she didn’t hesitate. She looked at me and said, “We’ll get through this.”

Without a second thought, she cashed out her life insurance and gave me €40,000. She didn’t do it because I deserved it – she did it because of the deep, unconditional love she has for me. For a mother, that is the most selfless sacrifice she can make.

My grandmother added another €5,000. I managed to cover the last €5,000 through a student job and by spending the last of my own savings. But the real value of this help wasn’t the money. It was the unwavering support – the certainty that I was never truly alone.

My mother saved me from ruin. And I know she would never expect anything in return. She did it out of love. But I want to give something back. Because if anyone deserves it, it’s her.
