Helping a fully disabled veteran

I never would have thought about doing this but I’m going to try and prove a point.

Here lately I see the Karmelo fund getting all this attention.  Then I see one where a white lady uses a racial slur and she is making a ton of money.  I cannot for the life of me understand why people would donate to these funds.  And I’ll be honest.  I am aiming to prove a point here.  I’m trying to prove that Americas priorities are WAY out of wack.

So … I am a 48 year old 100% disabled veteran who retired from the US Army after 21 years of service.  I was living in Arizona at a veterans homeless shelter for 2 years because I couldn’t afford the outrageous rent on what the VA gives me.  Finally I met the love of my life and soulmate. So I moved to South Carolina to be with her.  I was finally able to afford a modest house and I was super excited.

Upon buying the house I found out I was lied to by the seller about SEVERAL things.  The plumbing was done by someone who had NO clue what they were doing and raw sewage was leaking out under my 2 daughters bedroom.  I didn’t have the money to repair this and the seller refused to cover it because I had waited 21 days to report it (I didn’t move in right away because I figured what’s the hurry I own it and can take my time moving things with my own car and not have to rent a UHAUL).  I had to borrow $14,000 from my girlfriend’s mother to pay the bill.  Unfortunately I didn’t have the $5,000 necessary to retain a lawyer to sue for the money and no lawyer was willing to help.

I am helping to raise 2 daughters (that aren’t mine)(one is 8 and the other is 3) because … let’s just say their father has his priorities on other things and isn’t really that helpful.  This is (as you can imagine) quite taxing on a limited income and it’s a struggle.  I have applied for jobs everywhere but seem to be “overqualified” to get an interview or don’t even get a call back.  And these are places like QT, restaurants, Walmart and CostCo.  Or it’s because I refuse to work on Sunday because I am a follower of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I believe Sunday is for God and not working.

Anyway … that’s pretty much why I would need this money.  If I get anything donated it would go to paying back my girlfriends mother (more then the $100 a month I’m doing now), paying for expenses for my girls such as school supplies, clothes, and above all food, airline tickets to go see my mother (who I had to leave in Arizona)(she lives in a assisted living facility because she has MS and cannot walk), and improving the house for my girlfriend and my two girls to make their lives better.

The main reason I want to do this is to prove once again that Americans have their priorities WAY off.  If a suspected killer or a white racist can raise several hundred thousand dollars then someone who fought for the country’s freedom should have no problem raising a much smaller amount right?  I’m betting I won’t get anywhere near what they have raised.  Prove me wrong.  But I don’t think that will happen.

Thank you for reading and sharing (if you feel so inclined).  God Bless you and this country!
