A Journey of Service, Love, and Hope: A Call for Help
I am not an expat. My journey began in Germany, where I served in the U.S. Army until my time was done in 2002. Leaving the Army was one of the hardest decisions I ever made. As my unit prepared to deploy, I felt a deep ache in my heart, knowing I wouldn’t be going with them. Still single at the time and unsure of my next step, I prayed, asking God to show me a way forward.
One day, while waiting in line at the PX, a chance encounter—or divine intervention—changed everything. A kind woman struck up a conversation about the Army. I told her how much I wanted to continue serving my country, even though my time in uniform had ended. She looked at me thoughtfully and said, “I bet you'd be good with children.”
She worked with children of active-duty personnel and suggested I visit the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) office. After praying and feeling at peace with the decision, I applied and was hired to work with the Child and Youth Services program. There, I found my calling, supporting the children of soldiers deployed overseas. Many of these kids were grappling with the absence of parents I had served alongside.
In those moments, I felt God was using me in a new way. I became a source of comfort, a mentor, and a steady presence. Knowing the challenges their parents faced in deployment gave me unique insight, and I approached my role with compassion and purpose.
Fast forward 22 years, life has brought incredible blessings, including my loving wife, Panchalee, whom I met two decades ago. She has been my rock, and I have been her sole supporter. However, last year, life threw us a curveball. An injury left me unable to drive to work, and despite months of leave, MWR let me go. Since July 2024, we’ve been without an income. Our savings are gone, and we now face the possibility of losing our home.
We desperately need a miracle. Rent, utilities, and essentials have become overwhelming burdens. I humbly ask for your prayers and support. If you feel moved to help, may God bless you tenfold for your kindness.
Lord Jesus, bless everyone who reads this. Thank you for being our strength in this trial. Amen.
I hope this helps, Darryl, and that your work situation improves. Cynthia
Good luck, brother. May God continue to bless you and the family.
