All of us know what it is like to either receive the scary diagnosis of cancer, or to have someone we love receive it. When I heard my diagnosis, my blood ran cold (I never knew this was really a thing!), my breathing stopped, and my bones turned to jelly. It is quite a physiological response.

Imagine if you or someone you loved received that diagnosis and there was no medical care available in the country you lived in that could help you? This is the situation Massa finds herself in today.

Massa needs a lumpectomy. This surgery, so simple in most of the world, is unavailable in Liberia, West Africa, where she lives and works. She will have to travel to Ghana to receive it, at a cost of $5,000 USD.

Massa is an elementary teacher in Liberia, one of the poorest countries in the world. She started as an aide, then earned her teaching certificate. She receives a salary of $85 USD a month. Massa is a single mother raising three beautiful young children. Life is a challenge every day. Receiving a diagnosis of cancer has made it harder.
