Levi is one of our 11 alpacas. He fell on the ice in the beginning of December and broke both toes of his right front foot.
After consulting with the Cornell surgery team the vet put his foot in a cast for 4 weeks, hoping for the bones to heal.
Unfortunately the bones are too displaced and did not heal. The only option seemed to put Levi down.
I got Levi from "Gentle Breeze Alpaca Farm" in Upstate NY. He was my first and he is very special to us. He is now 8 years old, very healthy besides his foot. His fiber is of really high quality and products of our fiber farm help to support our convent.
He is the sweetest, gentlest alpaca on our farm. He gives kisses and is great with visitors and kids.
As a last result we consulted with "Ohio State Animal Hospital". The surgeon is suggesting to amputate the foot and give him a prosthetic.
The surgery would be $1000, the prosthetic $1200 plus vet visits etc.
We are asking for your help to give Levi a chance.
Love the Levi...hope this helps...

Levi has received his prosthetic. He now has to learn to walk again.
Thank you for all your support so far. We still have a way to go for Levi to be back with his herd.

It has been two week since Levi's surgery. The surgery was successful and Levi is doing very well. He is getting along on three legs and really wants to get back with the herd.
We are waiting now for his prosthetic, which should arrive in another week or two. We will keep you updated on Levi's progress.
