Chance of a lifetime eclipse trip

Campaign Created by: Kent McManigal

The funds from this campaign will be received by Kent McManigal.

Goal: USD $1,500
Raised: USD $ 0

I’ve always wanted to experience a total solar eclipse in person. This April 8, 2024 was going to be my chance - at last.

I planned ahead. I got the family onboard with the idea. We booked a rental and I was saving money for a trip to see the eclipse.

Then I got hit with three expensive medical emergencies last year. I tried to hang on to the money I’d saved for the trip but that simply didn’t work. In the blink of an eye, everything I’d saved was gone. (Here’s a link to the medical bill fundraiser, in case you’d rather help that way.)

It’s only an 8 hour drive from home to the path of totality where it’s closest. So close, but so out of reach as things stand.

If you want to help, I’d really appreciate it. I’ll never get this chance again.

I need gas money at least. Money for some meals would be a bonus, as would money pay for the rental. (I booked it early enough that the price hadn’t gone crazy because of demand yet, but it was to be paid closer to the date of the reservation. If I have to cancel, the property owner will probably be happy to get more money from someone else now, but I’d rather not have to drive both ways in one day, and my daughter would definitely not like that. And I don’t think it’ll be possible to find another place on this short notice.)

If you feel this is worthwhile to support my with this lifelong dream, please help. Any money raised above and beyond my expenses for the trip will go toward paying the medical bills mentioned above.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

I’m still looking for some help. I realize this isn’t life and death. I still really want to do this and I’m going to need help to be able to. So, if you can donate, I’d appreciate it. If you can’t, could you please share and promote this in some way?

Thank you so much!

I’m still holding out hope… Hope that I won’t have to hitchhike to get to the eclipse. I’ve got to get there somehow. I’m sure you can understand.

Share this if you can. Thank you!

Hello out there. Could you find it within yourself to share this campaign with anyone who might be able to help, would want to, and might not otherwise find me?

 Thank you so much!

Wouldn’t you love to help me and my family go experience the total solar eclipse this April?

I thought so!

 Don’t wait too long.

Wouldn’t you want to see an eclipse, especially if you knew it would be your last chance?

I do!

Can you help?

Time’s a tickin’!

I’m trying to avoid sending this to my friends. Probably not the best plan. Still that’s the plan.

I think it’s obvious no one is even seeing this fundraiser, since I didn’t get a single reply to my recent question. Be that as it may, I’llkeeppostingandtryingandaskingyoutoshareThankyouverymuch.

I’m curious… is this campaign not being seen, or is it something no one finds important enough to help me reach?

I ask you to share your thoughts. Don’t donate, just talk to me. Thank you.

Update #6

I’ve got about two and a half months until the eclipse. Two and a half months to raise the funds for the trip.

Will we make it? I hope so!

Update #5

I found out last night that I’m the only one in the household still holding out hope to go experience the eclipse. The others have given up. That makes me a little sad, but I’m determined to make it happen. Somehow. Will you help? Either with a donation or a share?

 Thank you!

Update #4

I homeschool my daughter and I want to use the eclipse as an educational opportunity. I used the recent partial eclipse, but she was underwhelmed. Now I want to show her the difference a total eclipse makes- it is literally the difference between “night” and day. It’s amazing how much difference just a few percent makes, and that’s what I really want to show her.

If we can go…

I’ve experienced an annular eclipse and a few partial eclipses, but there’s no comparison between those and a total solar eclipse.

I want to experience the darkness in the path of totality. Wouldn’t you?

Help me get some attention for this fundraiser, if you can.

I really don’t want to miss the eclipse!

This will be my one and only shot at experiencing a total solar eclipse— something I’ve wanted to do all my life.

There’s less than three months for me to raise the money to do this. Time is ticking!

Help out if you can, share if you would.

 Thank you!
