With the flooding news reports of what is taking place in the Middle East with the genocide of Christians we have started a movement called Ribbons for Rescue to call the church to prayer and action. We have seen tremendous growth with that. But we still want to do more.
God has laid it on our hearts to start the process of taking in refugees. It is a process completely new to us but we are willing to do it. I spoke with the town and we would be allowed to bring a couple families in. I have spoken with RescueChristians.org about if they could select a family to come and they would be willing to do that. We would just need to get it approved by the State Department. (Lots of prayer for that)
We also realize our current house is not big enough to do this type of work. We have made do with our 3 bedroom ranch for 10 years having at times up to 20 people living here. But that would not be sufficient for this call.
A house has become available in our town. It is BIG (5,000 sq ft) and it has 18 acres of land (So rare for Salem) and the price is lower than we would have imagined. We just do not have the funding for it. It is bank owned and we would need the money up front (we will start the process of selling our current home.) It also would require work as it has not been lived in for a while.
We would have to take some very big faith steps in selling our house (that we love) first without the security of definitely getting this new house. We are willing to do it as this is the difference between life and death for others.
This is not something that we can afford outside of the miraculous heart of God. So we have prayed and believe it is time to start to ask the greater body of Christ to come alongside of us and help with the expansion of our home.
If this vision resonates with your heart, we would welcome you to contribute. We would need the Body of Christ to surround us, in helping buy the property and then get it into good using condition. We are asking for your help. Those of you that know us, know that this will all go to good use. Nothing will be wasted. For the entirety of our marriage ALL our money and resources have gone towards helping build other's lives while we have relied on the Lord ot cover our basic needs. We know that every gift matters no matter what the amount or how much the time given. We would be sincerely thankful for it. ~ Jim and Lyd
*WE HAVE WORKED IT OUT WITH GIVESENDGO THAT ALL MONEY DONATED IN WILL NOT BE TRANSFERED IN TO OUR BANK ACCOUNT UNTIL AN OFFER ON THE HOME HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE BANK. AND IF, FOR SOME REASON, WE CANNOT GET IN TO THIS PROPERTY ALL MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED BACK TO EVERY GIVER! THANK YOU!
(A little background to help you become familiar with who we are)
We are a normal family who chooses to love with all we have. We believe that every person is deeply loved by God and matters to Him. Therefore they matter to us. So for the past 10 years God has brought to our home roughly 60 men, women and children from many different circumstances and backgrounds for us to love. Many have come to us off the street or sent by various churches who are unable to help with their long-term housing needs. Some were just in a moment of crisis with no support system. We have had people who have been unemployed, drug addicted, living on the street since they were a young teen, as well as people who just needed a place to stay til they could pay off their debt, or get a firm footing for a better future. But ALL of them have come needing to know the Love of God in a deeper way.
We don't have a system, except to rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit. For each person/family who walks thorough our doors we ask the Lord why they are there. And His response is different for each one. And so we love them in a way that is specific to the Lord's leading. We are certainly not perfect and we have made mistakes and learned so much along the way but we have seen great transformation in the majority of the lives that the Lord has brought to us. Aside from the miracle of encountering God for the first time or growing in deeper relationship with Him, we have seen people get their GEDs, their drivers license, get married, start a business, get a job, pay off debt, come off drugs, repair broken relationships, learn new patterns of living, buy a house or get their own apartment, learn to be more patient with their kids, deal with mental health issues in a productive way and much more.
We work for a living and do not get any state or church funding for what we do. We do not try to draw attention to ourselves. Jim is a plumber full time and Lydia is a stay at home mom who homeschools our kids. It is Jim's income that covers the majority of the needs of the house. Although we really know it is the miraculous provision of God that covers all our needs.
We are asking if YOU or YOUR CHURCH would be willing to partner with us in this endeavor to rescue people. Thank you to each one of you who have taken the time to read this!
