My family fled religious persecution in Serbia so I could live my life as a Christian without being persecuted for my beliefs—yet that is exactly what is happening. On September 1, 2023, Best Buy terminated my employment because I stood firm against workplace discrimination based on my religion and I exercised my right to be a Christian.
My name is Enis Sujak. I have lived in the United States since 2002, and I love this country. But over the last three years, I have noticed that the American dream I have always sought after has dwindled. It has become more and more unattainable for the everyday American such as myself to achieve. And those who dare speak up against the narrative, I have learned, are the ones with targets on their back.
As a Christian, I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Yet for some reason, Best Buy insisted that I submit to a lesson series on “The History of the LGBTQ Movement” while I have clients waiting on my assistance.
My ability to help and serve customers with electronic repairs and the sexual orientation of my colleagues have nothing in common. In fact, sexuality has no place in the workplace, and forcing me to subject myself to conduct that I believe constitutes a sin while taking me away from serving my former employer’s customers is simply unacceptable—in fact, it’s unlawful.
For that reason, I have retained constitutional attorney Mike Yoder and I will no longer be silenced, and I will not be standing down. I am going on offense, and I will be filing a civil rights lawsuit against Best Buy for violating my right to be free from workplace discrimination on the basis of my religion, gender, and sexual orientation. In no way have I ever argued that anyone who differs in religion, gender, or sex should be treated differently; rather, all I wanted was to be treated the same as them, and have my beliefs respected equally.
It’s time we fight back, take a stand, and defend our rights. I will not back down, and every contribution no matter how great or small, helps us in this fight.
I am grateful to James O’Keefe for giving me the platform to share my story, and for Mike Yoder who is willing to fight for me and defend my rights.
I thank all of you, and God bless America 🇺🇸🙏🏼
