A New Year and a new group of Kids!
'Jordan's Kindergarten' continues to be a light in the village of Nankhwali, Malawi, Africa. Nankhwali has a population of approximately 5,000 people and is located on the south end of Lake Malawi, which is one of the most biodiverse lakes in the world.
Each year we provide early childhood education to 100 children ages 3-5. Every child attending will learn the basics such as the alphabet, numbers, colors, and shapes. Then a meal followed by singing, dancing, and play is a good way to end the day.
The literacy rate in Malawi is 62%. The government of Malawi recognizes the importance of preschool education, and encourages communities to set up their own preschools, but does not support them financially. Without funding to support pre-schools, most are run voluntarily and unregistered.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world where 70% of the population (20 million people) earn less than $2 a day. That being said, it would be nearly impossible for any community in Malawi to fund their own preschool without outside assistance.
Worldwide inflation in the past couple of years has made life even harder, a friend of ours living in Nankhwali stated that some people are sleeping for days at a time trying to preserve energy until their next meal.
It is an honor and a privilege to support and love these children by giving them an essential meal and early education as they begin their learning experience with the hope that they will thrive as they reach primary school age in the following years. Assisting children, the most vulnerable in this country is heavy on our hearts and we will continue this mission for years to come, providing an important foundation for learning and development.
We started this fundraiser because we are urgently trying to build a cafeteria so that meals can be prepared safely and efficiently, also providing the kids with a proper place to eat. Equally urgent, there is no water at the school so digging a well is a top priority as well. With a vision to start a nutrient-rich sweet potato garden onsite, this water is critical. Planting this garden will bless the entire village as we will be able to share these potatoes and vines, teaching the agricultural process and sustainable steps with a focus on providing a hand-up, not a handout.
Above you will find many pictures in chronological order from the beginning mission where we rebuilt a church, started a feeding program, then built the preschool. All of these projects have been built in faith, with Jesus Christ as the foundation.
Please consider donating to these projects supporting basic necessities in Malawi, the "Warm Heart of Africa". We are praying and believing that everyone who sows seeds into this school will reap a 10-fold harvest!!😁🙌 We could not do this without you. Thank you so much!
