We are all devastated by the sudden and unexpected loss of our friend and colleague, Officer Jason Kuti, affectionately known as Kuti.  Kuti had been a police officer with the Richmond Police Department for 19 years.  While with the RPD, he served his country in Iraq with the U.S. Army.  Upon his return from combat operations, Kuti was a Master Patrol Officer in Third Precinct, and then went on to establish the HOPE Unit alongside his friend and partner, Officer Matt McHugh.  As a member of the HOPE Unit, he worked to assist homeless individuals and connect them with the appropriate resources.  Kuti was a loving husband, dedicated father, loyal friend and resourceful police officer who was motivated to make a difference.  In all facets of his life, Kuti exhibited integrity, compassion and dedication to supporting those around him.  Kuti never hesitated to lend a helping hand, whether it was putting together furniture for a friend, delivering meals to the homeless or stepping up to fulfill a work assignment.  During his free time, Kuti enjoyed cooking, playing golf, doing projects around the house and, most importantly, spending time with his wife of 15 years and two children.  We are raising money to support Kuti’s family during this difficult time.
