A few weeks ago, weeks after my routine yearly exam, I got a call out of the blue telling me about my upcoming appointment with a specialist. I had no idea I needed a specialist, but apparently, I do.
I showed up for the appointment but there were some problems with my insurance so nothing got done at that time, but I did find out some information.
It seems they suspect I have a "rare blood disease"-- whatever that means. (I'm not going into more details because I don't want to encourage speculation and well-meaning diagnoses.) Specialized blood tests and a scan are needed to rule other things out. I was told that's "not cheap".
So I need help paying the deductible. Anything extra I raise-- if any-- will go for buying the 12.5 gallons of gas it will take to get me to the office and back however many times I end up having to go.
Thank you for your help and for sharing this campaign with your friends.
Now they want $400... September 12, 2022
I found out the reason the colonoscopy clinic is demanding $400 (they raised the demand) before the procedure: my insurance will only pay for one colonoscopy every 10 years. Even if I wasn't a polyp garden, a colonoscopy is recommended every 5 years. And because I grow pre-cancerous polyps I need to get a colonoscopy every 3 years.
I have no clue how much I'm going to owe after all this-- on top of what I still owe from all the previous tests to try to find the mystery problem.
I'm greatly discouraged.
Bottom(s) Up? September 9, 2022
Next Friday-- September 16-- I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy. Yay. I have to have one every three years because my colon is a garden for polyps. I hate them-- this will be my third.
Supposedly, my insurance covers colonoscopies. Supposedly. Because the clinic is saying I will have to pay $300 when I walk in, or the procedure will be canceled and I will be charged a cancellation fee. Last time, I was charged extra for the polyps removed, so maybe that's what it's about.
I did call and talk to my insurance and they didn't really have much encouragement, other than I could try to find a different clinic. I'd rather not do that if I don't have to, since I'm familiar with this place and I'm already stressed enough over the whole thing.
I don't have enough to cover the charge, so if anyone would like to chip in, I'd appreciate it.
Just to keep my supporters up to date. June 6, 2022
I just got back from my follow-up appointment.
The doctor told me again that I'm really healthy... except. And that's the mystery.
They did find a cause for the bad test results, but that cause has to have its own cause, and it doesn't seem to. I have none of the risk factors. They can't figure out why I should have any problem at all.
So, I got more blood drained to be tested. They are looking for any sort of autoimmune issue that might be causing it. They'll call in a week to tell me what they found and I have my next follow-up appointment in early/mid-July. So, more waiting. Hooray.
Quick follow-up May 11, 2022
Just a quick update...
As of this morning, the tests are all done now (at least, unless they find something that requires more tests), so now I am waiting for the results.
The doctor is hopeful it's the benign condition she suspects. In that case, there isn't even any necessary treatment, just something to keep an eye on and be aware of since it will show up in routine screenings and could trigger more alarm in the future.
I'm REALLY hoping she's right!
The Finish Line! April 15, 2022
I just want to thank everyone again. We made it to the goal!
I'm still pretty stressed out over the upcoming tests, and I just found out I'm scheduled for something else I'm not going to like soon after the insurance kicks back in after the mix-up, but at least the deductible won't be adding to my stress.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Update #3 April 14, 2022
So close! Can you help push me over the top? Either donate or share-- or, why not both? I'm really grateful for all the help so far! Thank you all!
Update #2 April 9, 2022
We're over halfway there!
If you will, please share this campaign with others you think might want to help. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you all! April 7, 2022
I want to thank everyone who has donated so far. Your kindness has touched me-- I really don't know what to say other than Thank you.
This has at least made the financial concern over these upcoming tests less pressing.
It's rough having this hanging over my head for the next month until the testing can begin. I've rarely noticed every little twinge in my body, but now everything I feel makes me wonder if it's related. I know it probably isn't,
I don't like undergoing tests (I had a serious bike accident when I was 12 and have had an irrational fear of medical procedures of any kind since then) but waiting to find out anything may be nearly as bad.
Again, thank you so much! If you don't mind, share this campaign with anyone you think might be interested.
