A Service Dog for Rosemary

Welcome! I'm Caroline and my husband Matt and I are fundraising the money to train a service dog for our 13yr old daughter Rosemary.  Rosey suffers from multiple physical and mental health disorders that make life really challenging for her. She deals with chronic pain, weakness and periods of leg paralysis, tics and severe anxiety and depression every single day.

Here are her conditions:

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome- EDS

Median Accurate Ligament Syndrome - MALS

Functional Neurologic Disorder - FND

Mood Disorder

Depression

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Rosemary's conditions have really gotten worse over the last 9 months. She has had several hospital stays, multiple ER visits, and up until now missed most of the 7th grade. She recently had to switch schools to one that is better equipped to manage her multiple conditions. She has found it increasingly difficult to be involved in any outside activity or in social situations. Multiple daily panic attacks are sadly the norm. Having a service dog will help her mobility due to her EDS and FND as well as be trained to perform specific skills to help her manage her psychiatric conditions and keep her safe during panic attacks and self harm episodes. Rosemary's hope for her future has dwindled greatly over the past 9 months and she has expressed to us that having a service dog is the only thing that is bringing her any bit of hope right now. As her parents we have watched her world get smaller and smaller as her conditions have worsened and it has been devasting to watch her decline. We are hopeful that a service dog will not only provide companionship but also help her mobility, confidence and most importantly be trained to keep her safe.

However, training a multipurpose service dog takes a lot of time and money. Money we don't have because of doctor's bills. However after a TON of research we have been working with a wonderful organizationp in Iowa called Superstar Service Dogs who found us a crazy smart puppy, Amber - a poodle Great Pyrenees mix,  and will be boarding and training her for the next 18 months. They have worked with other teens like Rosemary who need multipurpose service dogs. We will travel to Iowa once a month so Rosemary and Amber can get to know each other and can learn how to work with one another.  We would be so grateful for the help to cover the cost of boarding and training, monthly travel expenses, vet expenses, completing the fencing for our yard and for equipment such as custom fitted mobility harnesses. Any extra money will go toward future vet expenses, equipment and food.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support!

Amber got her first official grooming this weekend so she would be all pretty for her visit! She\'s been working on opening drawers this week and has been doing great! We will do some training and bring her home for a few days to practice allllllll that she has learned. She is already over 30lbs and not even 4 months old yet! I like to call her our Big Baby! Haha

Isn\'t she cute?!

Dear friends and family

Thank you so so much for all of your kind words, prayers and donations! We are able to already pay for the first 6 months of training and insurance and the latest vet bill! Rosemary has had some ups and downs the last few weeks and I have wanted to update but found myself overwhelmed and exhausted. Thank you for your patience with the updates and I will try and update more regularly.

Rosemary is doing well making it to school despite some really difficult days and I am so proud of her. She\'s been having a few new FND symptoms which have been a bit nerve wracking. Having Amber by her side is going to be unbelievably helpful. She often feels unsteady and weak. In addition to episodes of leg paralysis this week she\'s had a few times when she couldn\'t move her arm either and it was difficult to remain upright. We will see the neuro- psychologist again soon (the person who treats training FND) and hopefully she will have some ideas for us to try. Please please keep praying for Rosemary! Pray too for Amber to continue to grow healthy and strong and that she learns her skills quickly! This week she is mastering opening a drawer! This is an important skill that we will build on! Here\'s a recent picture with one of the other \"service dog in training\" friends! Amber is almost 4 months old and not so little! We like to call her our Big Baby! Haha Also good news... she is coming for another visit next week for Rosemary\'s birthday. Rosey will be 14! More about all of that soon!

Thank you again for all of the love, prayers and support you have thrown our way! We could never explain how much it means to us! God bless each of you and know that you sre all in our daily prayers!
