Help Ukrainian Families who are suffering in war

Campaign Created by: Lena Traister

The funds from this campaign will be received by Gabriel Traister.

Goal : USD $20,000
Raised : USD $8,745

Hi my name is Lena and I am a Ukrainian citizen, from Kiev, who is living abroad.I have been contacted by many family & friends who are now living in bomb shelters in Kiev, Zhytomyr & Kharkiv due to the current war situation and are in desperate need of life's necessities ( food, clean water, medicine, warm clothing, etc...).

I have decided to start a fundraising campaign with a goal to reach $20,000+ to help 40+ families in such desperate need. The money donated would be split up $500 per family, which would be enough to cover each family of 4 for a month to get through these hard times. If donations exceed $20,000 we can help more families with their desperate needs.

These are mostly mothers, children, babies and grand parents who are in these bomb shelters as the men fight in the war.

Please if you can spare anything to help, I and all families would be very grateful.

Thank you and God bless you.

Lena

Anastasia Dement

Nastya We are a family of 5 people: me with 2 children, mother and grandmother 85 years old When the first sirens began on February 24, we all went about our daily household chores and did not immediately understand what was happening. But when they realized that these were air raid sirens, they immediately ran to hide in the cellar. Since that day we have not had a moment of peace. Our normal life is over. Now our weekdays sit in a damp cellar 4 times a day, and if there is time to go out, then we go out and cook food and wash things for a shift. There is no work because of the war, and the money that we had is already running out and there is practically no food left. My mother is dependent on medicines and she needs to have them with her all the time, so we want to stock them up, since pharmacies and shops are empty. We would like to thank you so much for your financial support! Now we have the opportunity to buy food and medicine.

Update #19 from Myroslava after receiving funds

Myroslava Klymko

Miroslava, I live with 2 59-year-old retired aunts and their 15-year-old granddaughter, who was left without parents. In peacetime, we sold vegetables on the street that we grew in the garden to get at least a little extra income, but now we do not leave the house. Scary! From the first day of the war, sirens howl 4-5 times a day. At first we ran to the bomb shelter (school basement) which is located not far from our house, later, due to the state of health, we decided to stay at home, we all sleep in the corridor when the sirens start to buzz. We almost never leave the house, only when absolutely necessary. Stocks of food and water were running out and money too - we were in a hopeless situation. Thanks to your help, we were able to buy everything that was missing. Hygiene products, and most importantly food and water. In our stores, the shelves are already half empty, but we managed to buy food that is still available. Once again, thank you so much for helping us so much in these difficult days!

\"...after all, a mother of 82 years old after a stroke and an older sister with a son-in-law of 60 years old who stayed with her remained in her native city of Kherson. The city is now under rashists!( Russian Fascism). The family of a neighbor who was just driving around the city in his car was shot point-blank. Why I want to ask??? Cars are taken away from the population, phones. Everywhere they draw their Z( letter being written on buildings, streets, etc...) and cut through the city. It is impossible to withdraw money, there is no cash. The stores are empty. They bring 3 trucks of humanitarian products, not a single local citizen took them. But there was a camera, and I can imagine what they mounted there. People take to the streets to rallies against KHNR ( Kherson Independent National Republic). They want to hold an imaginary referendum like in the Donbass or Crimia.
The most important miscalculation Putin - Ukraine is now as united as never before in its entire history!!! Having fled from home town Gostomel, we spent several days in town Rovno, an absolutely alien family that received us. None of us have ever been \"Bendera\". But now we have become them, people are so united, so close!!! And everyone from young to old will fight for their own people, for their land, for themselves, for Ukraine! The whole world is for Ukraine! Only Russia against...
We will never be the same as before, a lot has changed and values in the first place!!! And there will never be forgiveness for this wickedness! And is it possible to come up with forgiveness for killing piecefull people? We are very hardworking, we all had a job, a good job, our own housing. Children were engaged in dancing & karate. We lived in our country, in our cities, in our families. They just lived, just worked and did not touch anyone, did not fight with anyone !! And overnight they lost everything ...... Like people in the Second World War. The scenario is the same .... My Russian grandmother was awarded a medal in the WW2...
Today I received your help. First of all, food. The most basic, main products, so that there is enough for everyone. More diapers... And medicines. I myself give injections to my sister after the operation.
There are no words to put into them all the gratitude that my family feels!!! May God always protect you and your families!!! Thank you all kind people!!!\"

Olha Drobna.

3 women w 4 children.

Direct from Olha:

\" I\'m 50 years old. I was born and raised in the south of Ukraine in sunny Kherson. Small, very international town. Here, no one has ever focused on language or nationality. Enough space by the Black sea under the sun for everyone! We studied at the russian speaking school then. But everyone knew and we know our native ukrainian language. And in all my 50 years, I have never felt any oppression anywhere!!! Wherever I was, in city Lvov, in Kyiv, in Kharkov, in Donetsk!! My mother is Russian, my father is Ukrainian. One grandmother spoke Russian, the other Ukrainian. At work (in a private clinic), I communicated in a way that was convenient for the clients. We don\'t care what language we speak. Everyone always understood each other. Half of the team from Donbass! I spent all my holidays and vacations in Donetsk. I still communicate with those who stayed there!!!

Who can know, sitting in another country, how we live??? Who gave the right to invade us and kill our children and the elderly?

One of my sisters lives in town Gostomel. Own house, well-groomed yard, vegetable garden, dog. Two boys Ivan 4 years old and Ruslan 1 year old. Until recently, they hid in the basement. They managed to jump into the car at the last minute and leave. But there karate coach didn’t have time .... And the neighbor was taken hostage .... And we still don’t know what happened to the house ....

My husband stayed there, guarding a military facility. Where is he, how is he, we just find out that he is alive - every 2-3 days .... To say that there is a meat grinder is to say nothing .... This is HELL!!!

Another sister from city Kyiv, after a severe operation on her spine, has just started to walk with small steps. She has daughters Karina 12 years old and Victoria 5 years old. For the first three days after evacuation, the children screamed in their sleep, the girls developed bedwetting, and everyone was frightened.

The soul hurts, the heart sheds tears - \"

UPDATE:

Anastasiia Kharchenko.

\"When they started bombing Kyiv, a rocket exploded a kilometer away. My relatives and I spent a day in the basement ... As soon as everything calmed down, we immediately drove out in a car. Left with only the clothes on our backs, the only thing that we managed to take was things for the child. Our house is no more... IT\'S TERRIBLE WHEN YOU CHOOSE WHERE YOU WILL BE KILLED: IN THE BASEMENT OF A HOUSE WHICH A ROCKET CAN HIT, OR ON THE ROAD. For a long time we could not decide to leave ... every hour there was an air raid alarm .. While fighters were flying over us .. I don’t know if they were ours or Russian ... But the body was simply numb with fear .. While we are with relatives and friends. But even they are running out of stock. It\'s morally very hard to be a burden on relatives... (They lost they job do to war. Only money they left - it\'s to feed family for couple days. They hopes were only for miracle...) Thanks to your support, we saw the sky above our heads... Therefore, yesterday there were many tears of gratitude to you. Unfortunately they come back to Kiev do to injury one of relatives (after missile air alarm they run to shelter & he fell in hole in the road and broke his leg). Yesterday in Kiev were 4 explosions in residential areas do to missile attack and now in Kiev 48 hours Marshall law. They at this moment can\'t leave city & praying for protection.\"

\"In Kyiv, the situation is tense and restless. A rocket was shot down near our house and windows were broken in the neighboring house. Today we went to the store, which is located right next to the forest. There were constantly audible bursts of machine guns and the roar of explosions and heavy artillery shots. We bought  everything we needed, including: cereals, sugar, flour, nuts, dried fruits (canned food and meat are all sold out). Thanks again for your support. Everything we bought is thanks to you. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks again!\"

Dmytro, a 60 year old man, and his son had to evacuate from Kyiv to Western Ukraine. Now they are in a tiny village in Western Ukraine, Ivano-Frankivsk district, near Karpati mountain and they are being hosted by a local family. They are currently living in a storage shed and keeping warm by wood fire. Both father and son have health issues and of course are unable to find a job as there are none to be had. They have no money to buy food and have found it very difficult to feed themselves. Dmitry - \"now situation I say is not ordinary. I keeping my spirit up and ready for anything. And teaching my son.\"

March 14, 2022
facebook twitter

We sent $500 USD to Halyna on 03/09/22, here is an update from her:

She is currently in transit via car with 11 people. Her mother, who is currently in transit with her, gave us an update on the village where she used to live. Russian forces have taken over Mehaelevka-Rubezhevka village now. All communication lines are down in that area. She told us she has a special message from the Mayor of this village publicly posted online which reads: \"15 days of war, our village is totally surrounded by enemies. The soldiers are robbing the village people, they\'re all very scared. People are not allowed to leave village, nor any help can come in. This is the 7th day under these conditions. We are on the edge of a major humanitarian crisis. This village has many women, children, and elderly people. Please, I am pleading to the public or anyone that can help. We need a green corridor where the women, children, and elderly can be evacuated to safety.\"

Halyna said \"places like this has been flattened to the earth, we don\'t know the situation of this village because we lost all connection with them.\"

Halyna will give a further update once her, the family, and friends are in a safer location.

Update #7 - Yevgen Panyushkin
March 14, 2022
facebook twitter

We sent $500 USD to Yevgen on 03/09/2022, here is an update from him:

Yevgen says the river is extremely high and is thinking the Russians may be bombing near the Kyiv Reservoir that, if comprised, will flood a large part of the low lying areas of Kyiv.

This is all that was sent by Yevgen, we are hoping for further communication soon.

Update #6 - Nataliia Kolos
March 14, 2022
facebook twitter

We sent Nataliia Kolos $300 USD on 03/10/2022, here is an update from her dated 03/11/22:

As Nataliia was waiting in line at the bank in the city of Lutsk (Western Ukraine), air alarms went off and everyone had to evacuate to underground cover. Four bombs went off in the airport area and now all the residents are reacting differently because Western Ukraine had not been bombed up until that point. Many people were moving to Western Ukraine in hopes of crossing the border to Europe on the multiple train routes in the area. The following day of the air raid, Nataliia was able to retrieve the funds and was extremely grateful for the help. There are no jobs available or any way to make money and she had just ran out of essential supplies, mainly food.

We have asked Nataliia to continue to provide us with updates when she can. Thank you to all the donors who made these funds available to Nataliia!

Update #5 - Nataliie Kolos
March 10, 2022
facebook twitter

$300 USD (8,749.26 UAH) was sent to Nataliie on 03/10/2022. Natalie is in the city of Lutsk, Ukraine after leaving Kyiv the first day Russia began to bomb Kyiv. In Lutsk, a kind family invited them into their home to stay during these difficult times. Natalie is accompanied by her husband and their child. Her family does not have any money to purchase food or supplies and wont be able to until they pickup the funds sent to them. They are now working as volunteers to help arriving families find a place to stay.

You may have noticed Nataliie was only sent $300 and this is because we are looking to spread the donated funds to more people. Our list of individuals and families needing help continues to grow and we will not turn them away. Thank you all so much!

Update #4 - Yevgen Panyushkin
March 10, 2022
facebook twitter

$500 USD (14,582.10 UAH) was sent to Yevgen on 03/09/2022. Yevgen is still in Kyiv and is debating on leaving or staying. He is working on getting his cousin and his cousins wife on a train out of Kyiv. After he has secured their place he will be looking for others to help get out of the city.

A further update will be provided once we know more.

Update #3 - Western Union Waives Fees
March 10, 2022
facebook twitter

Western Union has waived all transfer fees associated with sending money to Ukraine. This includes all credit card transaction fees. This is in effect until the end of March and will possibly be extended depending on the needs of Ukrainians at that time.

The quickest way to send funds to Ukraine is through debit card and credit card as funds arrive within minutes of the transfer. We have been trying to send funds as quickly as possible but at times Western Union flags the transaction as suspicious and we then have to call them for clearance which can take up to three hours.

We would like to thank Western Union for the commitment they have made to deliver funds free of charge to the people of Ukraine. Thank you!

And thank YOU to all our donors! Your contributions are beyond appreciated.

Update #2 - Halyna Dudar
March 10, 2022
facebook twitter

$500 USD ( 14,582.10 UAH) was sent to Halyna on 03/09/2022 through Western Union. Halyna Dudar has a total of 11 family members counting on her and is currently in Haivoron, Kirovohrad District. We will update on Halyna\'s family situation as soon as we receive an update from her.

Update #1 - Ievgen Siabriuk
March 9, 2022
facebook twitter

On the 7th of March $500 USD (equalling $14,582.10 Ukrainian Hryvnia) was sent to Ievgen Siabriuk to help his family get out of Kyiv and stock supplies to survive the next month. The family is beyond thankful for these funds as they would have not been able to leave Kyiv without them. As soon as Ievgen and the family are in a safe area, we have asked them to provide us with an update that we will post to the fundraiser. As of right now the communications are spotty and Lena is having a hard time getting in touch with people.

As you all know, the situation in Ukraine is becoming more dire everyday and the possibility of people being able to remove themselves from the ongoing conflict is becoming slimmer. We currently have a list of families we are working on sending funds to, any donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
