UPDATES
Arch here, for the first time. Others have been posting updates for me, and now I am able to do so myself. A huge thank you to Al and MaryAnne Hockaday for setting this up and to my sister Tracy Gonzales for helping manage it through this recovery process.
Also, a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, posted prayers, sent good vibes, or reached out to show your love and support. It's simply breathtaking.
I have an appointment July 18 with the surgeons in Spokane and expect at that time a final surgery date will be set.
The generous donations have been a blessing. They've helped pay for a hospital bed in my home until I could navigate stairs to my room and my OWN bed, a rented ramp for wheelchair access in and out of the house, a never ending need for medical supplies to treat my abdominal wound and ileostomy, and other assorted medical bills which continue to pile up. I just wanted you all to know your donations have been applied in a manner that has allowed me to focus on recovery and not how to keep the lights on.
I'll post an update next week when I get my surgery date. Until then, thank you ALL again!!
UPDATE: I met with my surgeon last Tuesday in Spokane and got some information. Overall, I’m very pleased and excited.
The good news: he’s pleased with the progress I’ve made. When they do the surgery, it’ll all be done in one shot meaning they’ll close up my abdomen and reverse the ileostomy. I’ll be in the hospital 5-7 days when that happens and it’ll take a couple months of rehab to get back to “normal”.
I’ll need to increase my endurance and walking before the surgery. So I have work to do but also specified goals that are attainable by simply committing to do the work.
Update from Arch on upcoming surgery:
“Update 02/16/22
I met with a local surgeon today in Wenatchee. She was very pleasant. Took a good look at my charts and records and examined my abdominal wound carefully. After consideration and discussion with colleagues, she feels I will be better served to pursue surgical care in Spokane with the original surgeons. My surgery will not be simple, and she was honest that it is likely beyond her skill level. I’m missing a huge part of my abdominal wall with nothing but a skin graft covering my innards. They’ll want to cover that in a more secure manner. The ileostomy reversal will be a part of the process but the big picture won’t be known until I get there for evaluation.
It’s hard to know what to expect specifically. I’ll be in contact with Spokane to set an appointment, and we’ll go from there. Preliminary guess is that when I go in for the surgery, I’ll be down for at least a week. Which at this point is not that big a deal. Especially if it’s the final hurdle.
That’s all I know for now.
Take the victories where I can get ‘em.”
First of all, we greatly appreciate everyone who has donated. The support for Arch has been incredible! Arch has made amazing progress on his path of healing. However, the hospital bills have started coming in, and despite getting back to work part-time, the cost is weighing greatly on him. He is also in need of a vehicle as he becomes more independent. Thank you again, your continued support and prayers mean so, so much!
Here is the latest update from Arch:
“UPDATE: This coming Tuesday marks eight months since my rollover accident. Time to share my latest progress.
Since Christmas Eve things have gotten decidedly better. On that day, I successfully climbed the 15 steps to my upstairs (bedroom, shower, studio) for the first time. I\\\'ve acquired a nice new bed, and have returned the rented hospital bed. I\\\'ve pretty much gotten away from using a walker, and generally rely on a cane. I\\\'ve been able to walk up to 50 steps without any assistance of cane or anything. I walked a full lap at the arena (using my cane). I took a few short rest breaks, but went 510 steps in 10 minutes.
It feels great to sleep in my room, shower upstairs in my actual shower, and to have access to my studio for recording.
I still have at least one more surgery, but not sure when that will be. I\\\'ll meet with local surgeon this week and should have a much better idea at that time.
I\\\'m making plans to return to performing this summer. Both individually (The ArchMan Piano Show) and (ArchMan: Unplugged) and with the band (No Promises - the band).
The support from everyone, friends and family, has been overwhelming. I\\\'m forever grateful for the love and energy. Thank you EVERYONE!!”
