Over the past 63 years, God has used Fort Johnson Baptist Church to shape and transform the lives of many people on James Island (just outside Charleston), SC. On September 9, 2021, a fire caused by lightning destroyed the sanctuary and much of the classroom space. We have been blessed to have a gym on the property where we have been able to meet for worship each week, and have seen God still do great things in the midst of this mess.

While we thought we were fully insured, it has become apparent that there are limits on our insurance coverage for required code upgrades (i.e. we must do these upgrades to be able to meet in the building again). The shortfall from insurance exceeds $1 Million, which has been quite a shock, to be honest.

We would love to be able to get back into the building with no debt, and free up the gym again for effective community ministry.
