Our mom, Elizabeth (Liz) Lehman has lived a life of service to Jesus, the church, her family, and her friends. When our dad passed away in 2005, only two months before their 50th wedding anniversary, her faith never wavered, and she continued to be strong and trusted in Jesus. Many of you have been impacted or touched by knowing her and it is with humble hearts we ask for financial help in keeping her in the home she loves and needs, a specialized care home for residents with dementia.

In 2013 we began to notice signs of memory loss in our mom and by 2014 she needed to move in with one of us in Upland, CA. She had to leave a church where she was a deacon and her church friends because she could not be on her own anymore. She lived with her daughter for four and a half years until her needs became greater than what we could meet. On March 1, 2018 we moved her into a memory care facility.

The vulnerable quartet repeated often in the Bible are the orphans, widows, foreigners, and the poor. Unfortunately, our mom, Elizabeth Lehman, falls under two of those categories – a widow and poor. Our dad was never provided a retirement plan in his years as a missionary and pastor, so when he passed away in 2005, we had to sell their home to pay for her living expenses. After 4+ years in a memory care facility, that money is now gone. Beginning January 1, 2024, her only monthly income will be $1848 from Social Security. All other funds will be depleted as she has paid @$6000-8000 a month for memory care for almost five years. Unfortunately, our healthcare system does not consider dementia and Alzheimer's a medical issue. They consider it a “social” issue, which is why MediCal (Medicaid nationally) will not pay for memory care, but will only pay for skilled nursing. As many of you have seen via pictures and videos on Facebook, her current home has been a loving and caring environment for our mom. It has been her home for almost five years, and it is the safest and most nurturing place for her. The caregivers know her intimately, love her deeply, and take care of all of her needs. However, due to the depletion of her financial resources, we will need to move her to skilled nursing, a place that serves the purpose of rehabilitation and severe medical needs but cannot meet her dementia needs of loving interaction, one-on-one attention, and stimulation.

We have initiated this GiveSendGo campaign to attempt to allow our mom to stay in her current memory care residence so she can live the best life possible with her disease and be cared for and loved with dignity. The money we raise will help cover the remaining deficit after using her monthly social security and any amount we (her four daughters) can contribute out of our family budgets.
