Pastor David Dunn of Grace Bible Church of Houston suffered a traumatic heart attack that severely damaged his heart, requiring a Left Ventricular Assist Device and/or a heart transplant.
While Pastor Dunn and his family and doctors are deciding on further treatment, his care has already accrued significant expenses. Research reports estimate that the average cost of heart transplantation was over $1.6 million in 2020 and will greatly exceed the Dunns’ insurance coverage.
Should you wish to join in expressing gratitude for Pastor Dunn’s many years of faithfully teaching the Word of God, please consider contributing to the costs of his medical care here. Prayer support is both coveted and gratefully appreciated.
UPDATES
Update #7 November 17, 2023
David is resting peacefully. His nurse is very nice and informative. David is being intubated, and therefore, he is being sedated.
The nurse says they will remove the breathing tube today and wake him up. She also says that they will want to get David up and walking in the next couple of days.
And then there's this update!
David is no longer on a heart pump, and he no longer needs a pacemaker! He’s essentially off of life support.
He really looks great - good color.
What wonderful news!

Update #5 November 16, 2023
God is listening to all of your prayers! And we have so many updates to share.
First, while David is still in the hospital, he’s shown great improvement. A few days ago one of the doctors expressed surprise that David’s pacemaker was not having to help as much with David’s heart and that all of the swelling and the fluid in his lungs has gone away! No more coughing!
Second, the doctors were able to take David off lasix, reduce his other medications, and lower his Impella machine’s output from 8 to 4. In addition, David’s blood sugar dropped to 85.
Finally, we learned that a possible heart donor has been identified. The doctors are hoping to do the transplant surgery tonight, Thursday, November 16. They are going to take him down to prepare him for surgery around 6:30 pm CT. However, they will still have to take one final look at the heart after it is removed from the donor to ensure that it is in perfect condition. If everything looks all right, they will proceed with the surgery starting around 10:00 pm, and it will take approximately either 6-8 hours. So, it will be a late night event.
Please pray that God’s will is done and that HE is glorified in this situation, whether it be through the healing of David’s own heart or through healing him with a transplant. Thank you!🙏🙏🙏

Update #4 November 8, 2023
The doctor said there are a number of hearts with David's blood type being offered to the hospital for transplant, and if one turns out to be a viable option for David, he could be up for transplant surgery very soon.
Please pray for a viable heart for David soon and that the surgery will be a huge success with no rejection or complications of any kind. Also, please pray for the salvation of the donor and the donor’s family and that God will comfort them and glorify Himself through all of this.

Update #3 as of 122/2023 October 22, 2023
Just wanted to let you all know, that I was able to take David's computer up to the hospital and he has started to read all of your encouraging messages and prayers and it really put a smile on his face! He is so touched by the outpouring of love and concern you have all shown him.
I also wanted to let you know that he is feeling better and better everyday.
Yesterday he was able to walk 6 laps around the hospital and he told me that he felt so much better that he walked the last one on his hands (kidding of course : ) and as of today, he said he is feeling really good physically and mentally and he is back to studying all of the time again and he was able to walk 6 and half laps around the hospital during his physical therapy. He said he would have gone further, except someone had started mopping the floors and he didn't want to get in their way. He's such a considerate fellow : ). But, he is in a very good mood today and all of the love and concern you have shown him, has a lot to do with that! So, thank you!

Update #2 October 6, 2023
To you wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ,
I finally had some time today to read the kind comments and prayers you have all left for David, for me and for all of our family, as well as the wonderful Bible verses you’ve brought to mind. They are all so uplifting!! What thoughtful, loving brothers and sisters in Christ we have! I am looking so forward to being able to take David's computer up to the hospital here in the very near future, so that he can personally read all of your caring comments and prayers! And we want to again thank you so very much for your generous donations toward David's medical bills. We are SO VERY GRATEFUL, and we appreciate every single one of you SO MUCH!! We are so blessed to be a member of the precious body of Christ!
I also wanted to let you all know that God is listening to your prayers!! David is getting better and better every day, especially since the ablation procedure! He sounded so good and upbeat today when I talked to him on the phone that it was hard for me to imagine that there's even anything wrong with him. His sense of humor is totally back! The hospital staff have also told him that they have put him on the transplant list! So, all of you powerful prayer warriors, please keep praying, because God is listening!!
IN HIS MIGHTY, HEALING HANDS,
Misty Dunn

We are so incredibly grateful for your support! September 29, 2023
We just want to say how incredibly grateful we are for the tremendous outpouring of love, support and prayers coming in from all around the world for David from this wonderful body of Christ! There are just no words to express our gratitude, only tear-filled eyes! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Knowing we’re not alone has made this difficult trial so much easier to face.
God is definitely answering our prayers. He brought all the right people together, and we were able to secure an insurance policy for David that will start coverage on October 1st. That policy will cover 75% of his treatment, including the LVAD and/or a heart transplant. It will also help to cover some of the costs of the medications David will need. Your incredibly generous donations will help us cover the costs that have been accumulating since he first went to the hospital on September 9 through October 1st, plus any costs not covered by the insurance policy — and we are so incredibly grateful for that!
WHAT AN AWESOME GOD WE SERVE AND HOW BLESSED WE ARE TO BE A MEMBER OF THIS WONDERFUL, LOVING BODY OF CHRIST.
THANK YOU!
Misty Dunn
