We are surrounding the Jays in prayer and helping raise funds for Erika’s much needed cancer treatment. 

As a stage IV patient, she has been accepted into a new kind of nano-therapy trial. It is a ground-breaking cancer treatment that is showing very high success rates, but being so new, and early in the trial, it is not yet covered by insurance.

For the last 10yrs, Erika has battled a rare and very aggressive cancer known as a GIST sarcoma. When she was first diagnosed in 2016 at the age of 35, it was stage III. In 2019 it progressed to stage IV. 

Over the years, Erika has had many surgeries and undergone multiple kinds of chemo treatment. Several of the chemo drugs have been ineffective, all of them have caused major toxicity issues leading doctors to pause treatment at times and even causing hospitalizations. Options have been limited as this kind of cancer doesn’t respond to radiation or immunotherapy. 

Erika is again facing toxicity issues from the ongoing, indefinite course of chemo treatment. Doctors are working to avoid having to pause treatment again to avoid more cancer progression. This new nano-therapy treatment offers the real, tangible hope of remission, and possibly, even a cure. 

The cost for each month worth of treatment is around $5,500. This includes onsite treatment at the clinic in Tennessee and local weekly treatments in Indiana in-between the monthly TN onsite visits. Doctors estimate it could take up to a year worth of treatments to reach remission. It’s quite possible it could take less than a year. 

This fundraiser is to help cover the first six months along with the cost of driving to the clinic in TN once a month for two days worth of onsite treatment (gas for the 12hr round trip, hotel overnight, etc). 

It’s overwhelming to think of the cost, especially in addition to the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical expenses the Jays have already been faced with, and continue to be faced with, since this journey began in 2016. 

They have exhausted all options financially and are praying for God to make a way with funding for Erika to be able to participate in this trial.
