Dear Friends, The plight of public school students, who are being educated in a secular desert, is the result of a general misunderstanding about the legality and benefits of their being aware of the role of religion in our culture. Regarding the legality, the U.S. Courts have set guidelines for teaching religion in public schools. As long as it has a secular purpose and doesn't promote or denigrate any particular world view, it is legal to teach religion in public schools. Please see our Sense of Congress Resolution about this issue on our website.

Previously, when attempts were made to teach the Bible in public schools, there was legal push back if the court guidelines were not followed. As a result, most of the 1400 public school districts in the U.S. have refused to allow curriculums that contained religious ideas.

Our organization, which can be found at www.EnlightenEducationCo-op.org, has created a curriculum that meets the courts' guidelines and is available for download, free of charge, from our website with additional information regarding its proper implementation. The curriculum is in three parts: I. A Survey of World Religions, II. A Survey of the Old Testament, III. A Survey of the New Testament. Our guidelines require that teachers only present the texts and facilitate polite discussions among the high school students who elect to take the course. There is no testing, grading, or attempts to indoctrinate in any way.

Our organization stands ready to offer consulting services on how best to implement this curriculum. Our request to you is to help us fund this project that is so critical to the development of future American citizens of our Republic, remembering that about 80% of them are being launched into troubled waters without compass or rudder. We need to develop students who are grounded in moral values, good etiquette, and meaning for their lives. Traditionally, in our country these values have been found in religion, in particular the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.

Please join us in this important mission. The very survival of our country depends on our ability to transfer key values to our next generation and we believe that is only possible by careful consideration of our sacred religious texts.
