If you live in Medford, chances are you know Réal and Cheri Brasseur. For years, they’ve poured their hearts into the lives of young students as dedicated grade school teachers—Réal at Abraham Lincoln Elementary and Cheri at Lone Pine Elementary. They’ve also been active members of their community and church, attending Path Church in Central Point and previously serving in various congregations. Their love and generosity have touched countless lives, and now it’s our turn to lift them up in their time of need.

On April 25, Réal was went to Providence Medford Medical Center after not feeling well for a few weeks, and discovered he had suffered a heart attack that led to heart failure. As doctors looked further into his case, they discovered concerning signs in his blood work—unusually low platelets and red blood cells—pointing toward what is now feared to be a rare and aggressive form of leukemia.

After being admitted for a week in Medford, his health continued to decline and it became clear that Réal needed more advanced care. He had received countless life saving blood transfusions and began to turn septic, all the while having a heart that was slowly failing. On May 3, he was flown by Mercy Flights to Providence St. Vincent in Portland, where he is now fighting for his life. Cheri, his devoted wife, has not left his side.

Although they would never ask for help themselves, we know that the medical bills from an extended hospital stay and a critical air transport add up fast. On top of that, it has become clear that he will be in Portland for some time without work. They have spent their lives helping others without hesitation—whether in the classroom, at church, or in their community. It’s our turn to give back.

Even in the midst of this incredibly hard season, Réal and Cheri remain rooted in their faith. They trust the Lord fully and are standing firm, believing in His goodness and provision regardless of the outcome. Their strength and hope are an inspiration to all who know them.
