Erika pulled her 7th grade daughter out of class at Olympic Middle School in Auburn, Washington, after students were allowed to leave class and block traffic for an anti-ICE protest. In a now viral video, Erika tells school staff that she was “ashamed and embarrassed” to see such a thing happening at her child’s public school, saying she thought her daughter was safe there. 

We admire Erika’s bravery in pulling her child out of public school, despite the uncertainty and online hate she now faces. In a tearful video, Erika promised her daughter she’ll get her a good education “even if she has to pay for it” or drive long distances.
