Hope for addicts and alcoholics!

"You are the only one that has the courage to say these things," Kim told me. "This is going to help so many people."

What if you could bring hope to addicts, alcoholics, and countless others struggling with "doing what they don't want to do" and are ready to give up? To show them there is a future on the other side of addiction? Introducing "The 50/50 Campaign": A bold initiative to reach 50 addiction and recovery centers in all 50 states with a vulnerable, Christ-centered message of hope by donating 50 boxes of the upcoming book, Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic. And we need just 1,000 people to give $50. You in?! Donate here!

(If you're a video person, you can watch an introduction here.)

The Book and Background

My name is Jonathon M. (Jon) Seidl, and I'm the Christian who became an alcoholic. Usually it's the other way around, isn't it? But the truth is no one is immune from struggles or nagging issues—including big ones like addiction. I've written a book about that struggle, about coming to the end of myself and finally allowing Jesus to heal all the parts of me—especially the ugly ones I hid for years because of trauma, shame, and believing lies. While the first part is about my story, the second part offers four practical (but biblical and spiritual) steps to break free from what I hid for years. And I want this message to get to others like me: the people who are often ostracized, ignored, and judged.

That's where you come in!

My book, Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic: A Candid Conversation on Drinking, Addiction, and How to Break Free, releases on October 7, 2025. As part of the launch, I want to do something wild: I want to donate 50 boxes of books to 50 addiction/recovery treatment centers (or ministries) across all 50 states. From California to Connecticut. Because the message of "messy sanctification" and God's radical grace that Jesus used to rescue me needs to get to others ready to give up.

"Grimy, hard...honest. ... Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic is a testimony to [God's] faithfulness."

Matt Chandler, lead pastor, The Village Church

I believe in the message of this book because I've lived it. Every raw, real, and beautifully broken part of it. And I want others to experience the freedom I've found and that's available through Jesus.

Will you help me? (Donate here!)

Your donation will bring hope to numerous others who need Jesus—many of which are suffering in silence. The book both introduces people to Jesus and is a definitive resource for those who already know him but are stuck. Because in the end, the Church is quick to welcome the sinners who are far from God, but it struggles with what to do with those of us who are trapped despite having a relationship with Jesus.

So the Church forgets that the message of Jesus isn't just "come as you are," it's also "stay as you become."

So, are you in? Are you ready to help spread a message of hope? A message that both Christians and non-Christians alike need to hear? If so, just $50 here will get it done.

Together, let's put the Gospel message of hope into the hands of those who need it most: $50 for 50 boxes of books to 50 treatment centers (or addiction recovery ministries) across all 50 states.

Let's spread a message of radical vulnerability, messy sanctification, and God's mind-blowing grace.

The ball's in your court.

Early Feedback

It's one thing to pour your heart out and think it might resonate. It's another to let other people read what you've written and affirm there's something "there." Some of the early feedback and endorsements have been humbling. Maybe they'll help you make a decision to support this initiative and spread the message of hope found in the pages of Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic.

"For over 20 years as pastor of The Village Church, I have had a front row seat to the messy, slow process of sanctification in the lives of the saints. I have witnessed the miraculous breakthrough where addiction or anger seems to lift and never return supernaturally, but I intentionally used the words miraculous and supernatural because I have watched 100s of people surrender to Jesus, love him and have a hard time breaking free of certain indwelling sins. I'm grateful for books like Jon's. It reads like real life to me: grimy, hard...honest. The Lord is faithful to deliver us. Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic' is a testimony to that faithfulness."

— Matt Chandler, lead pastor of The Village Church

Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic is an honest and redemptive work that courageously illuminates the intersection of faith, addiction, and trauma. Jon’s bold commitment to vulnerability and healing is inspiring. His words offer hope for those struggling with the wounds that often fuel addiction, and he offers practical wisdom grounded in the transformative power of Christ’s love. 'Confessions' is a guide for anyone longing to break free and embrace the messy, beautiful process of healing.”

— Gina Birkemeier, LPC, author, Generations Deep: Unmasking Inherited Dysfunction and Trauma to Rewrite Our Stories Through Faith and Therapy

But the people you may not know are the ones I think say it best.

"You are the only one that has the courage to say these things," my friend Kim told me recently. She's recovering from a drug and alcohol addiction and read an early copy of the book. "This is going to help so many people."

"Why are you the only man being open and really talking about this? I needed this and didn't even realize it!" That's what Rob told me when I met him for coffee a couple weeks ago.

"I can't buy the book soon enough. And I've already read it. I needed to give it to someone yesterday." That's from an early reader named Cory.

And this from Jill: "You're about to introduce radical vulnerability and messy sanctification to a lot of hurting people that need those two things."

Will you help me reach others with the Gospel message of hope in this book?

FAQs

What exactly will the money be used for?

Great question! This fundraiser is first and foremost about a bold (but achievable) goal to get 50 boxes of books into 50 treatment centers (or addiction recovery facilities/ministries) across all 50 states. However, any additional funds will be used to A) expand the reach of the campaign, and B) expand the reach of the book's message to reach even more people!

Your $50 donation can help fund:

  • Reaching additional recovery centers and ministries across the Untied States and even globally!
  • A Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic billboard in New York City's Times Square with the opportunity to influence millions. (Yes, really! We have the ability to do this, and it's actually relatively inexpensive!)
  • A comprehensive messaging campaign in key cities across the United States, including "drinking" cities such as Dallas, Nashville, and my childhood home area of Green Bay, WI (the #1 "drunkest city in America"). Imagine reaching people struggling exactly where they're at!
  • Radio, video, and TV ads
  • A book tour visiting addicts and recovery centers across the U.S.
  • And more!

However, the book donation part of The 50/50 Campaign is the most important aspect and takes priority.

Are these tax-deductible donations?

No, these are not donations made to a charity because, well, I am not a charity. I'm just a recovering Christian alcoholic bearing my soul and trying to help others who struggle by pointing them to Jesus. If you are part of a non-profit that would like to partner with me to spread the message of hope in this book, though, let me know! (And if you are a recovery center or ministry that could benefit from the book, reach out!)

$50?

Yes! I'm praying for 1,000 people to give $50 each. (Give more if you'd like, of course!) But the truth is that $50 is just enough to make it feel significant, but not enough to break the bank.

Anything else?

Anyone who donates at least $50 will automatically get a FREE, 1-year, unlimited membership to the daily devotional website theveritasdaily.com. Additionally, everyone who donates will be invited to be a part of a live, online Q&A session with me during book launch! (And by donating any amount, I'll add you to my email list that gets my free daily devotionals.)

I’ve seen the destructive power of alcohol in the lives of so many and can say that this is a much needed work. I pray it replaces the drink in many people’s hand and brings them hope.
