Meet Nicholas -- A smart, funny, lovable, strong, brave little boy. Nicholas has been battling a rare spinal cord tumor, Pilomyxoid Astrocytoma, most of his life. He was diagnosed on November 2nd 2012. He has endured chemotherapy off and on for 3 1/2 years and has had 3 spinal cord surgeries to remove tumor that continues to grow back. On October 31st 2016 Nicholas had his more recent surgery which left him with little to no function on the left side of his body from the waist down. He spent 10 months at Nemours A I DuPont in outpatient rehab trying to regain as much function as possible until he was discharged in August. Nicholas is a first grader who has endured more than most have in their entire lives, he is now home and just completed his 3rd stint with chemotherapy. As he and his mother, Christine, continue to adapt to "normal" life in his wheelchair, being a first grader, continued physical therapy and occupational therapy and many follow up appointments at DuPont, St Christopher's and Shriners, they are realizing their current SUV is putting a physical toll on Christine's body. Many, many people have helped tremendously throughout their journey and I am hoping we can pull together again to help raise funds for a down payment on a wheelchair accessible van to make their life that much easier. As always, we appreciate you taking the time to read about this courageous young boy and his Mother and any donation, big or small is extremely grateful!
