Two and a half-years ago, Russ and Shirley Warner walked through a major medical crisis when Russ fell on some ice while doing some volunteer work at Camp Bayouca. God's hand was on Russ, who was able to make almost a full recovery, in spite of major surgery to repair a shattered hip and life threatening complications resulting from it.
However, just a few weeks ago, Russ fell again while working and broke his other hip. While the fall could have been much worse, doctors indicate that even with physical therapy, Russ' mobility will be severely limited going forward. They anticipate the use of a walker as likely, but not ruling out the potential of Russ being limited to a wheelchair.
Because of the changes to Russ' mobility, their home in Marathon needs a major renovation to make bathrooms, bedrooms, and hallways more accessible. We are installing a ramp, widening doorways, redesigning bathrooms for enhanced accessibility, and making other changes around the home. So, while we pray for miraculous healing, we also want to be wise and prepare for the needs of Russ and Shirley going forward.
Thanks to the big hearts and generosity of family, friends and the community, the work is already started. God is already writing an amazing story through the lives of the people who love Russ and Shirley. Volunteers have stepped up to manage the project, do the design, carry out the labor, and even feed the workers. We have been blessed with funds to cover one third of the project cost to get things started, but additional funds are needed.
We need to raise $20,000 to complete all the necessary work. Would you consider making a gift of at least $50, and spread the word to encourage others to participate. If we can mobilize 300 donors at $50 each, we can hit our goal. Of course, if you can, give more that is always welcome.
Russ and Shirley have been faithful servants of the gospel of Jesus Christ in camp ministry, local church ministry, and their communities for fifty years. We appreciate your prayers and generosity as you consider how you may give.
