What is Project Timothy?
PROJECT TIMOTHY is going to RUSSIA!!!
Would you partner with us, as we Partner with Russia?Be part of A Generational impact that will change the world in time… Not unlike in Acts when a few young men and women changed their part of the world as the Holy Spirit empowered their ministry and the Good News went forth.
Creating a Butterfly Effect… where the ripples land is endless as the generations extend the gospel to the ends of the earth and are equipped to minister.
Here's the back story...After working with teenagers for over 15 years, Christian Dunn, (Pastor at City Light Vineyard in Delaware), began Project Timothy. More than just the weekly local church youth gatherings, he saw a need to gather the youth who were feeling called into leadership. Project Timothy is a week long "bootcamp" for student leaders.. This was launched in 2008 with support from Vineyard USA National Director, Phil Strout and a large team of East Region Vineyard leaders, As the emphasis on youth and children of our movement grew, Project Timothy grew along with it. The goals to increase students' love for Jesus, leadership skills, biblical understanding, inform their missional outlook and use their gifts by the power of the holy spirit fueled more involvement of students and leaders alike.
Fast forward a couple years- Scott Mailhot a youth leader from NH, joined the East Regional Youth Task Force and became involved Project Timothy- East, along with a growing number of youth leaders and students from around the region. Over the following years, as youth kept coming back to PT year after year, the East Team built "tracks" to include mission, worship, teaching and foundational blocks that allowed students to have new experiences and learning avenues. With involvement from Regional directors and faithful youth workers around the country the Project Timothy model was replicated into other regions of the US. Project Timothy became a key training and equipping tool for students in the Vineyard. This year there are 6 sites- East, Midwest-North, Midwest-South, Southeast, Northwest and Rocky Mountain. Teams of men and women have made youth a priority and worked to empower youth in ministry alongside them.
At the Vineyard National Conference, in Anaheim, CA last summer,. Scott and his wife attended the Missions Luncheon. The goal was to gain information of the happenings with the Missions Partnerships and find a place to consider engaging. The room was very crowded and they ended up over in a corner by a table where the Russian Partnership team was set up. A conversation began that day that no one present anticipated.
Tom Diecks, (Pastor of Branches Vineyard in Indiana), was at the table representing The Russia Partnership. For several years the partnership has been supporting Russian Vineyard churches under the Vineyard Missions Umbrella. Tom struck up a conversation with The Mailhots about what God has been doing in Russia. He talked about the history of the Partnership and the Vineyard Churches and ministries currently supported. He detailed focused equipping trips and areas of support and ministry that have grown. One area of need that the Russian leadership has recently expressed involved engaging their youth in ministry. Tom had heard of Project Timothy. He asked if Scott knew anyone involved in PT. As the conversation continued a plan to talk again after the conference was made. As dialogue continued over a number of weeks with leaders in the Russia Partnership, it became clear that God was opening a door for development of a contextualized Project Timothy in Russia.
While Project Timothy was growing over the last decade, relationships were being built in Russia through the Russia Partnership investment. The partnerships exist to equip, disciple and offer support through finances, resources, prayer and relationships. This is done largely through teams and leaders being present and active on location in the partner country. Branches Vineyard and Syracuse Vineyard partner with Russia and there are currently 8 Vineyard Churches throughout the country. The Russia Partnership, led by Kent Butcher from the Syracuse Vineyard in Indiana, has moved forward to send a Youth Ministry Trip this July, with the purpose of bringing Project Timothy to the next generation of leaders in the Russian Vineyard Family. The idea of youth and young adults serving with purpose in ministry is relatively new in the Russian churches. The 2018 Youth Team will provide training and support for the the leaders who work with students, as well as the students themselves within the Russian Vineyards. This team will be participating together in a launch year of Project Timothy Training. The goal is to contextualize this training for the Russian youth and come alongside our Russian family with a team of students from North America and leaders who have been trained at Project Timothy. The ministry will include teaching of the first year Project Timothy foundational "track". A portion of the week will be spent adventuring together- white water rafting, climbing and hiking in a national reserve outside the city. Teaching and hands on “doing the stuff” will be incorporated into the adventure week to assist with language barriers and to foster relationships and growth as teammates, partners and contributors. The team will then split and run concentrated intensives at two towns- Borodino and Irbei. The goal is to move the Russian and North American Students alike, into servant leadership and empowered ministry.
What are the Specific needs to be MET with your Financial Support?
We are raising funds for the purchase of rafting and camping equipment that will be used during the adventure week and then utilized by the Russian leaders to build a small business. There is a huge need for bivocational work for the Russian leaders that is profitable and allows time to work in the Kingdom effort.
Funds will also assist the team with travel costs from USA to Siberia, Russia and lighten the load for all attending the Launch week. Supplies are needed such as printed materials, Russian-English Study Bibles, basic bible study resources and media support while at the church locations.
