I hope that this day finds you all very well!

A few years back now...during the Covid era, my eldest son, his wife, and their two small children at the time, were visiting his wife's extended family in the US, with such visits having occurred every year since 2012. The only exception to these trips was back in 2021 – entirely due to obvious restrictions.

As I am sure we are all aware of, certain "restrictions" were placed on Canadian citizens wishing to re-enter Canada. Two such restrictions were the "Quarantine Act"[1] and the "Arrive Can"[2] application.

As my son and I are both proponents of "bodily autonomy" and the "non-disclosure of personal health information", such "rights" can, and indeed, have had a profound effect on those wishing to re-enter Canada. My son and his wife were two such individuals.

Thus, on his return, he, his wife, and their two children, were all detained at the border for over 1 hour whilst waiting upon a health care official. More on this point in a moment...

In the end, my son, his wife, and their two children, were finally released, but not without consequences!

My son and his wife were both charged for 1) failure to abide by the Quarantine Act, and 2) failure to complete the Arrive Can requirements.
• However, my daughter-in-law was released of all charges, but sadly, my son was not.

One such consequence was my son having to plead guilty of the above "charges" in order to avoid having to go to trial.

However, the "consequence" that is most concerning to both my son and myself, is the unjust fines that have been imposed on him. For example:

[1],[2]One of these "charges" was later "dropped" – just not too sure which one...as we are unable to locate any documents referring to which specific charge was involved. Regardless, both tickets refer to the very same thing – thus we could argue either way.

The due date for the "fine" is August 31st, 2025!

As a somewhat rather "interesting" side note, apparently if my son and his family had decided to re-enter Canada later in the evening, they might have been able to simply "cross the border", and without any issues whatsoever! Apparently coming later in the evening mitigates the need to be seen by a health official, due entirely to the fact of there being no health official being on-site at that particular time. If only he had known!

As a direct result of these "injustices", I am personally, and on my own initiative, reaching out to family and friends to ask for assistance in the payment of these unjust and ludicrous fines that have been imposed on my son!
