I'm really excited about what God is doing in my life for 2019.
Last summer I had the opportunity to go to China with Bring Me Hope. There, I was able to work one on one with these two boys, who were in fact orphans. There, at camp, our boys had a safe, loving, and caring environment where they could be the kids they were truly meant to be. Outside of the orphanage, playing games, eating ice cream, dancing, singing, and having fun. I had never done anything like this before; go to the other side of the world, by myself, five weeks after finding out about an opportunity. It was all in God's plan of course, and for the week that I was there, He rocked me world. I feel like I got more out of that week of volunteering than any of those kiddos did, but I'm sure that's what most people who do missions say.
So, I am going back this summer. This time, as a staff member at the same camp I attended last year. There, I will be in charge of the carnival, teaching and introducing the idea of play-based therapy, and any and all bed time/ late night needs.
When I went to China last year I had never worked with orphans before, and I was not prepared for the week ahead. Most of the children who are orphaned in China have special needs, and there is a lot of trauma that comes from being orphaned and living in an orphanage. Take those two factors of being orphaned and having a disability, put them in a love-less enviornment, and you will never see a child thrive.
The purpose of camp isn’t to completely heal the wounds of the past or teach a child to completely overcome their disability. Camp is there to show the kids, that no matter what has happened or where they might be sleeping most nights, they can have the same fun, love, and excitement as any other kid.
So for the entire month of July I will be in China with Bring Me Hope (www.bringmehope.org) teaching Chinese volunteers how to help in the orphan crisis, and to understand how amazing these kids really are.
One month after I get back from China I will be heading to Oakhurst, California. I have been accepted into a DTS (discipleship training school) program with the organization YWAM (Youth With A Mission). For three months I will be in what is called a “Lecture Phase”. I will be using that time and those months to really study, learn, grow, and be discipled in the Word.
I’m really excited to see how God grows me and teaches me in those three months because… the following three months is even better. After the lecture phase in California, I will be heading over seas in what is called the “Boots On The Ground” part of my DTS. I will most likely be heading to Thailand (of course plans can always change).
In Thailand I would be working with the women of the red-light district, meeting with monks, traveling to unreached people groups, working on service projects, and even teaching English.
This is a really exciting year for me in my walk with the Lord, and I know His promises are yes and amen! I hope that you’ll want to join me with your support, either financially or in prayer.
