In April, our freshman daughter was raped by a 19-year-old following a school dance. After her disclosure, several other underage girls came forward with similar disclosures about the same guy. There is an ongoing OSP investigation for their assaults, with more young victims bravely coming forward.

In June, the Sheriffs’s Department arrested Steven Allen Battle for our daughter’s assault. She went through forensic interviews and exams, followed by Grand Jury. The DA Office indicted him with five counts for her assault (Rape 3, Sodomy 3, Sexual Abuse 3, Contributing to the Sexual Delinquency of a Minor, and Furnishing Alcohol to a minor - two Class C Felonies and three misdemeanors).

This past Friday (7/15/22), my husband, William Casey Simms, was arrested for allegedly assaulting the guy who raped our daughter. He came forward with these allegations against my husband following his arrest in June for our daughter’s rape.

My husband’s arresting charges include Burglary 1, Assault 2, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Tampering with a Witness (Class A, B, & C Felonies and Measure 11 charges). Much more severe than than the guy indicted for raping our child. We will have Grand Jury for my husband soon, and the same DA is prosecuting both cases.

On Monday, my husband went before the Judge and was released with a GPS ankle monitor, house arrest, no firearms, etc. His indictment is scheduled for August 2nd at 1:30. We have retained a Criminal Defense Attorney in Portland who is incredible - he and his team understand they dynamics and dysfunction of the case and we are going to fight this. However, with these charges in the State of Oregon, the attorney retainer fee is $40,000. Sticker shock - but considering what my husband is facing, we will figure this out. We understand it’s a busy time of year, we are all living in this upside-down world, but we would greatly appreciate any support you can offer, given the circumstances.

On a personal note, we are all doing pretty well. Holding our heads high, knowing it’s better to be accused of assaulting the guy who raped our daughter and other underage girls - than be the guy charged with rape and under investigation for numerous other sexual assaults. We will continue to smile through our tears, hold our children and each other tight, and battle the path in front of us. With heavy yet grateful hearts… thank you for any love, prayers, and support you send our way.
