Joji's Diabetes Treatment

My cat Joji is a rescue and I have had him since he was 5 years old. He's currently 11 and was recently diagnosed with diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis, which required an overnight emergency vet visit and multiple tests. I have paid for some of it out of pocket, but I work part time at a school so the bills are HIGH. The donation goal includes the additional nights in the emergency vet hospital at $700 per night. Anything you can helps a lot.

Update Update #11 Image
Update #10

January 29th, 2025

Joji has almost officially been home for a week! He had a bit of a scare on Friday, but we swapped his food to strictly diabetic prescription food and he's been amazing. This weekend we're going to see about how his insulin dose is working for him, but so far he's back to his old self! I'm so happy. Thank you everyone who's been sharing and donating so far!

Update #9

January 22nd, 2025

JOJI IS HOME !!! his final bill was $1,537 + $70 for his food . i'm so so happy you guys have no idea . this week has been a NIGHTMARE , but he's happy and healthy OFFICIALLY . he'll have to go back to the vet for a glucose curve check in approximately a week , but things are looking up ! thank you soooo much to everyone that's donated so far , please keep Sharing!

Update Update #9 Image
Update #8

January 22nd, 2025

spoke to the vet ! so far his glucose levels are fluctuating but staying within a safe range , he was eating when they fed him last night and he's being rly happy . they're gonna check on him one more time later today but said they're going to get the discharge papers ready !

Update #7

January 21st, 2025

they tried joji on the long acting insulin with one unit and his glucose is pretty high , she said i could Take him home & give him the other dose myself but it would be preferred to keep him one more day

so he's likely not coming home until tomorrow .

Update #6

January 21st, 2025

spoke with the vet this morning ! they still don't smell any ketones on his breath (good) , and are switching him to long acting insulin . they're gonna monitor him to ensure he's responding well to it , but said i should be able to bring him home this evening ^_^

Update #5

January 20th, 2025

the vet this morning said the ketones are officially out of his body ! his glucose level is still fluctuating so they're monitoring and adjusting his insulin dose, but if things keep going well i might be able to PROPERLY take him home tomorrow afternoon ! thank you again to anyone who has shared or donated so far ^_^

Update #4

January 19th, 2025

the vet spoke to me this morning, and his blood glucose levels are still high. he finally ate something this morning, and they still have him on short term insulin. they'll be taking a urine test to see if he still has ketones in his body. she said he won't be going home today or tomorrow, MAYBE Tuesday but it's starting to look like he might be there even longer. I've come too far to give up on him now. please share and donate.

Update #3

January 19th, 2025

vet told me he's in critical condition and will need to be hospitalised for at least 2 full days. my goal will have to be raised again . please PLEASE donate anything you can . it all helps , even if it's only $5 .

Update Update #3 Image
Update #2

January 19th, 2025

unfortunately he's already back in the emergency room, he had zero appetite when he came back no matter what i tried so he couldn't take his insulin. i had to bring him back before he went too long without it, so it'll be another $750 since he needs the fluids which is an extra $200. I don't know what to do. I'm out of savings and all I can really afford is one more night.

sorry for the bad news, thank you to the ones that have donated already. it means the world.

Update

January 18th, 2025

He's able to come home after a day, and he officially has his insulin and special food. I have also bought a blood glucose monitor so I can keep an eye on him at home. He'll need to return in a week for a glucose curve check, but otherwise he should be on the mend! Thank you for the help so far!
