What kind of teacher do I want to be...

- I want to be a teacher who prays every day for my students, their families, and their parents. 
- I want to share with them the God I know and the God I have personally experienced. 
- When I struggle with relationships at school (teachers, parents or students), I want to be a teacher who prays and seeks the Lord, rather than one who becomes bitter or overwhelmed. 
- I want to be a teacher who relies not on my own strength or plans, but who asks, waits, and entrusts my students to the Lord so that He may work in their lives.

About Me

Hello, my name is Sarah Nam :) I am a missionary kid and a pastor’s daughter. Before I was born, my parents were sent as missionaries to China, where my sibling and I were born and raised. In China, they planted and supported an underground church, ministering to both local believers and pastors by providing training and sending pastors back to their regions.

However, after pastors who had been sent to Tibet were arrested, my family’s identity was exposed, and we faced serious danger. In 2017, we were forced to suddenly relocate to Korea. Growing up, my family lived under constant tension due to our situation. In that environment, school became my place of refuge. The Christian international school I attended, along with teachers who cared for me with genuine love, gave me a sense of safety, and belonging. Through them, I began to dream of becoming a teacher who could offer the same love to children.

My Vision

Through the teachers I had in China, I first dreamed of becoming a teacher at a young age. As I grew older, I came to realize that this was more than just a personal dream, but a calling God had placed on my life. The elementary teachers in my life played a significant role in shaping who I am, through their love and care. Because of this, I want to pass on the same love to the next generation.

After leaving China, I experienced instability and gaps in my own education. Continuing my studies was often uncertain, and I had to find my own way with limited resources. Through this experience, I realized how essential love and support are in a child’s learning environment, which deepened my desire to one day give that to others.

My goal is to become a teacher who helps children build their identity on Scripture through both teaching and a life that reflects it. I hope to create a loving and supportive environment where children can grow in both character and faith. In the long term, I hope to serve God’s kingdom through education by contributing to Christ-centered education for the next generation.

To pursue this calling, I plan to study elementary education at Wheaton College, where I can grow both spiritually and professionally in a Christ centered academic community.

Financial Need

However, I am currently conditionally accepted due to financial limitations. In order to continue my studies and transition to full admission, I need additional financial support.

The estimated cost of attendance for the 2026–2027 academic year is approximately $66,648, including tuition, housing, food, insurance, and other expenses, with an expected annual increase of about 3.5%. While my first year is fully covered, I anticipate an ongoing financial gap of about $20,000 per year for years 2 through 4.

My parents, as missionaries and pastors, are not able to cover the full cost due to financial limitations. In addition, my grandparents are also serving as missionaries, and my younger brother will be starting college next year, which will further increase the financial burden on our family.

Your support would mean more than financial assistance. It would allow me to continue pursuing the calling God has placed on my life. Through my education, I hope to faithfully serve the next generation as a teacher rooted in Christ.

자기소개

안녕하세요, 저는 남은총입니다 :) 저는 선교사 가정에서 자란 선교사 자녀이자 목회자 자녀입니다. 제가 태어나기 전, 부모님은 선교사로 중국에 가셨고, 저와 동생들은 그곳에서 태어나 자랐어요. 부모님은 중국에서 지하교회를 세우고 섬기시면서, 현지 성도들과 목회자들을 훈련시키고 다시 각 지역으로 보내는 사역을 하셨어요.

하지만 티베트로 파송되었던 목회자분들이 체포되면서 저희 가족의 신분이 드러나게 되었고, 위험한 상황에 놓이게 되었어요. 그래서 2017년에 갑작스럽게 한국으로 오게 되었습니다.

그때까지 저희 가족은 늘 긴장 속에서 살아야 했고, 저에게 학교는 숨 쉴 수 있는 공간 같은 곳이었어요. 제가 다녔던 기독교 국제학교와 저를 진심으로 사랑해 주셨던 선생님들 덕분에, 저는 그곳에서 안정감과 소속감을 느낄 수 있었어요. 그리고 그 경험이 저에게 “나도 이런 교사가 되고 싶다”는 마음을 갖게 해주었습니다.

비전

중국에서 만났던 선생님들을 통해 저는 어릴 때부터 교사가 되고 싶다는 꿈을 가지게 되었어요. 그리고 시간이 지나면서, 이것이 단순한 꿈이 아니라 하나님께서 제 삶에 주신 부르심이라는 것을 알게 되었어요. 초등학교 시절 만났던 선생님들의 사랑과 돌봄은 지금의 저를 만드는 데 큰 영향을 주었고, 저도 그 사랑을 다음 세대에게 전하고 싶어요.

중국을 떠난 이후에는 교육이 계속 이어지지 않는 불안정한 시기를 겪기도 했어요. 학업을 이어가는 것이 쉽지 않았고, 제한된 환경 속에서 스스로 길을 찾아야 했습니다. 그 과정을 통해 아이들이 배우는 환경에서 사랑과 지지가 얼마나 중요한지 더 깊이 깨닫게 되었고, 언젠가 저도 그것을 나누고 싶다는 마음이 더 커졌어요.

저는 아이들이 말씀 위에 자신의 정체성을 세워갈 수 있도록 돕는 교사가 되고 싶어요. 가르침뿐만 아니라 삶으로도 그것을 보여주고 싶고, 아이들이 인격과 믿음 안에서 함께 자라갈 수 있는 따뜻한 환경을 만들고 싶어요. 앞으로는 교육을 통해 다음 세대를 섬기며, 하나님 나라를 위해 쓰임받고 싶습니다.

재정적 필요

이러한 부르심을 따라가기 위해, 저는 Wheaton College에서 초등교육을 공부하며 영적으로, 그리고 전문적으로 성장하고 싶어요. 하지만 지금은 재정적인 이유로 조건부 합격 상태에 있습니다. 대학에 진학하기 위해서는 추가적인 재정 지원이 필요한 상황이에요.
