Running a small business is hard, especially going through COVID. That was the when the downfall happened, now I'm trying to recover and have reached a place where I can't legally move ahead.

I have a marketing company that worked with the Better Business Bureau supporting their organization through assisting their local office with Membership Sales. The BBB is a non-profit organization, with no Government affiliations. Therefore, they thrive off of obtaining new businesses who pay a membership fee to join the organization. I worked with my local BBB office for 8 years. In 2018, their finance director mis-calculated our payments and it was discovered that they were to owe my company over $40,000.00. They admitted the error and corrected it moving forward. I continued to work in the BBB System until 2024. In 2025, I began pursuing law offices to take on my case, but quickly realized the Statute of Limitations expires after 6 years. This means, I cannot (legally) approach them for payment. I have reached out to the CEO via Certified Mail, email and phone (VM) and have been ghosted completely.

The organization admitted (in writing) that they would pay me the monies owed, but they have been dragging their feet on it and now, since it's past the 6-year mark, they are no longer honoring their promise. The Better Business Bureau, who stands for HONEST, INTEGRITY and TRANSPARENCY, completely disregarded their OWN standards and swept my situation under the rug. My business went into massive debt during COVID and I'm hoping to find some help in recovering my finances since the BBB purposely took advantage of my company after 8 years of service. They were unjustly enriched and don't feel it necessary to do the right thing and pay me the money they owe. Now, I can't legally do anything, though I was under the understanding they were going to pay me. I would like to have my business continue, but due to these problems, I've had to put things on hold and seek other employment - though the debts are still there.

I believed in and trusted the work of the BBB, but my local office doesn't uphold the standards they preach like other BBB offices do! It's sad and there's a reason why they have been struggling with membership for several years.
