Hi everyone,

My name is Andel, and this is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write. I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I would have to ask for help in this way, today I am humbly reaching out because I truly have nowhere else to turn.

For the past 8 years, I have worked as a hospice caregiver. Caring for people during the final stages of their lives has taught me compassion, gratitude, resilience, and just how precious life really is.

Recently, my own life changed forever.

After years of enduring an abusive relationship, I finally found the courage to leave a situation that nearly cost me my life. During the attack, I was beaten, choked , stabbed, and left at the bottom of a staircase for my neighbors to find. Surviving that night gave me a new purpose and a reason to keep fighting for a better future. Since then, I have fought tirelessly to keep the person responsible behind bars while trying to heal from the trauma that continues to affect my everyday life. Although the emotional scars remain, I refuse to let what happened to me define who I am.

Leaving that relationship, my two bulldogs and I started over completely on our own. Bam and Kenji are my entire world. Leaving them behind was never an option for me, even during the darkest moments when I was trying to survive and rebuild my life from nothing. I have worked tirelessly to stay afloat and create a peaceful, simple life focused on healing and rebuilding.

Not long ago I was informed by the family I have worked with from the very beginning of their mother’s hospice journey, that they were facing financial hardships, and with paying out of pocket for her care. They needed to reduce my hrs and pay to keep their mom in her home. This change has significantly put a burden on my financials. I made a promise to Mrs. Doris I would be there until the end, with complete faith that I would indeed be with her

during her final days.

I have tried managing this drastic change while trying my hardest to keep that promise to her. Unfortunately this situation has triggered a financial downfall that has left my income insufficient to cover essential living expenses, forcing me to drain my savings just to survive. 

I try to pick up any extra available shifts as a traveling aide when available but the work is inconsistent and never guaranteed. Despite doing everything I can alone, trying to keep my utilities on, food in the house, and a roof over our heads has led me in a state of severe depression.

Right now, I am facing the very real fear of losing my home. Payment extensions have already been made , utilities are on the verge of being disconnected, and I am doing everything I possibly can to hold things together while continuing to work and heal.
