This winter God has blessed me above and beyond what I expected or deserve and called me to missions in Perú. As a student at the University of Texas at Arlington I’ve had the opportunity to live and share with gospel with international students almost daily. Though the desire to become a nurse drew me to UTA, a heart for the nations is what has kept me here. As a student leader in the Baptist Student Ministry I’ve had the opportunity to grow in my ability to share Jesus’ story of grace and I can’t wait to take those new skills overseas. As a student of both Nursing and Spanish I’ve been privileged enough to learn how to present the gospel in medical situations and even in another language! This semester has been busy beyond belief, but seeing God change the lives of students I love has been a constant reminder of the joy and rest we find in Him alone.
This December I will be headed to Ventanilla, Perú to help a long-term missionary and her church with Christmas outreaches. We will be traveling to towns and villages near Lima to put on Christmas plays and engage people in gospel conversations. After the Christmas season has died down, I’ll get the chance to spend time with the church members and be a part of their weekly bible studies. My goal is to train the church members on some easy but specific ways to share Jesus’ story with their neighbors that can give the believers greater confidence in their role as ambassadors. In a country very much ruled by tradition, our responsibility is to introduce the people we meet to the reality that “it is by grace you have been saved, through faith” (Ephesians 2:8).
More than anything else, I need you to pray for us. Pray that:
The people we speak to will have new ears to hear Jesus’ importance
I would be able to clearly articulate the gospel in Spanish and language would not be a boundary
The missionaries and churches in Perú would see change in their friends, neighbors, and families
Traveling to and from Lima would be safe
Would you pray about partnering with me? I’ve been asked to raise $1,500 by December 12th. If God leads you to give, you can give directly online at givesendgo.com/peru. You can also mail gifts directly to 1021 Chasemore Dr, Mansfield, TX 76063
Please pray that the people of Perú will experience the goodness of the Lord through Him sending me. “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing” Psalm 34:8-10
For His glory,
Claire Van Arsdale
