We are a family of 6, sometimes 7 when my son comes home from college.
We lost our home of 9 years :(
We are struggling with gas to bring our kids to and from school, affording a laundromat, fighting with FEMA about our lease to purchase and proving our "real property" and personal property loss. My husband and our three children receive his disability benefits and I am waiting for my hearing; I was a high school English teacher (I worked so very hard to earn both my Bachelors and Masters degrees), but after physical and verbal abuse by the students and working in a highly toxic environment, both physical and mental, in October of 2014, I had a nervous breakdown and I was put on medical leave (I am still on medical leave) and I will not be released from my physicians care anytime soon.
We were making it as best as we can and then everything was taken from us, but because FEMA saw us as "renters" because it was my husband's mom and dad we were leasing from, we continue to have a back and forth communication with FEMA, via Internet about the proof needed; I have sent the lease agreement, the checks proving I paid the homeowner's insurance, yet we continue to get denied.
We have now lost our home and now our vehicles:/ insurance companies never give you what you expect for a vehicle that was priceless to you.
My 10-year old autistic son is devastated at the loss of two items he held so close to his heart. We ask for many prayers as this family tries to recover from all of this loss
