I am Mrs. Carrie Suhl Kaighen, wife of Pastor Dan Kaighen, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Norwalk, CT.
One of the Mexican Bible College graduates that we support (Jeronimo Guzman) has quit his job, sold his house, and packed up their personal items to start a Baptist Church in the city of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico, for the Lord Jesus. Just during December alone, he and his wife Mayda have had 38 people come to know Christ as they were out door knocking. They have 2 new families they bring to church each week, and one of their converts got baptized. They do many Bible Clubs for the children and reach many needy families.
They sent money to their father in southern Mexico and he rented a house on Dec. 27th for them to move to and start a church in the kitchen/living room. Please pray as they have no job and very little support, that the needed rent money ($111.00) would come in each month. They are leaving Jan. 18th on a bus for 30 hours and moving to Chiapas. They need your prayers for protection and safety. We were able to mail many of their Sunday School materials, puppets, small household items, Bibles and tracts, etc., while we are in Mexico in January. Praise God for another National Pastor who has a vision to reach the Mexican people for Christ. Bro. Jeronimo speaks Spanish and his native dialect of Xental, so he will be reaching many people that only speak his native language. Glory.
They did take a bus for 36 hours with a few personal belongings and are now in Palenque. They arrived Saturday, Jan. 20th and on Sunday Jan. 21st, 2018 they had their first church service in their rented house. The house is on the second floor, but has a large living/kitchen room for chairs. They had no chairs but their parents came into town on Saturday and bought them 4 chairs. They had six people in attendance on their first Sunday, Jan 21st, in Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico. Praise the Lord! They have 4 chairs, 20 hymnals in Spanish, 9 Spanish Reina Valera 1960 BEAMS Bibles, no pulpit, and just one shelf. We are praying that we can raise money to help them buy more chairs, benches, a podium, and help them as they start the very first Baptist Church in Palenque, Chiapas. They will also be holding Bible Clubs in the parks to reach the children and teens for Christ. Amen!
They visited Palenque back in September and met many people and led several people to Christ, but they couldn't find one Baptist church in the city. They are really excited to be there and we are praying that we can help them start this new church. We sent them a box of Gospel tracts in Spanish and 6 more BEAMS Bibles while we were in Mexico on January 15th - 18th, and we would like to help them raise the money to purchase what is needed for their new church.
I have lived in the country of Mexico as a missionary and distributor of BEAMS Bibles since January 1998. I worked at a Bible College for many years and worked at an Independent Baptist Church. In September 2016 I married Pastor Dan Kaighen and together we are continueing to help national Preacher boys that have graduated from Bible college, start churches in unreached areas of Mexico. Thank you for praying for this new church and for helping many to come to know Jesus Christ.
Update: Yesterday Jan 22, Pastor Jeronimo ordered a simple podium to be made at a woodshop not far from their church. He also ordered 2 wooden benches with backs. The cost of each bench is $27.80. The bench will be large enough for 4 adults. Amen. Thanks for the money that came in to help order more benches.
Praise the Lord on Sunday Jan. 28, for their second service 13 people came to church. A man and his wife and children, 3 other ladies, 2 teenage boys and 4 children. The wooden pulpit was ready and 3 more plastic chairs. Some benches have been ordered, and we are praying that they will be ready this week. 7 people came to church on Sunday night, 5 from the morning service and 2 others. Glory hallelujah.
