This campaign will allow us to start up the FIRST-EVER lacrosse teams for children from the Cayce Place projects in East Nashville, a neighborhood with an average household income of less than $7,500 per year.
Our goal is to start up both a girls team and a boys team for development age (10U) players starting as soon as possible with a plan to compete in games during the upcoming spring season. We already have everything else in place --- the players themselves, the location, the team name/logo, the head coaches, multiple volunteer assistant coaches, etc. We just need the ability to purchase additional equipment and pay for other team expenses like referees, league fees, etc. and these teams will be off the ground.
The team name we chose for both the girls team and the boys team is the "Nashville Heights Warriors". If you are familiar with Nashville, you may be asking where the "Nashville Heights" neighborhood is located. That's because, at the moment, it doesn't exist. We are CREATING A NEW NAME for the neighborhood these kids are from called the "Nashville Heights" section of Nashville, not "East Nashville" or "Cayce Place" or anything with a currently negative connotation. We want these kids to believe they can soar to new heights and rise above their current situations and we want that built into the team name right off the bat. We strongly believe that words have power and we want to choose the words we use to describe our team very carefully from the very start.
The teams are an extension of Level Field Lacrosse, a lacrosse program whose goal is to "level the playing field" to allow ALL young children --- regardless of background or financial capabilities --- to play the great game of lacrosse.
