While June has recently been overshadowed by celebrations of sin, it remains the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart, a devotion that calls us to turn from sin and embrace God’s mercy. Help us spread this message of hope by posting several billboards on Houston highways this June!

BACKSTORY:

June was officially declared the month of the Sacred Heart in 1856, when Blessed Pope Pius IX established the universal Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Solemnity was instituted following the visions and revelations granted to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque between 1673 to 1675. She was a Visitation Sister in France, and she experienced multiple apparitions of Jesus, where He conveyed three central messages:

1. Revelation of Divine Love: Jesus revealed His Sacred Heart as a symbol of His burning love for humanity. He asked St. Margaret Mary to spread this devotion to enrich souls with graces of sanctification and salvation.

2. Call for Reparation: Jesus expressed sorrow over humanity's coldness, contempt, and ingratitude toward His love, particularly from those consecrated to Him. He asked for acts of reparation through specific devotional practices.

3. Devotional Practices:

● First Fridays Devotion: To receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of nine consecutive months as an act of reparation, with the promise of the final grace of repentance.

● Holy Hour: To spend an hour in prayer on Thursday nights in remembrance of His agony in Gethsemane.

● Feast of the Sacred Heart: Jesus asked for a feast day honoring His Sacred Heart to be instituted on the Friday after Corpus Christi.
