In December 2013, Julissa, a single mother was brutally attacked by her boyfriend in her own home. In a psychotic episode, he snapped and stabbed her 30 times in the face and eyes, causing her to go blind. Doctors did not think she would survive and if she did, they were certain that she would never see again.
After an 11 day hospital stay, she pulled through and found an amazing surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai who was able to regain 30% of her vision! The whole experience has made her change her life…She wants people to believe in miracles, to take advantage of the precious time with loved ones and to always have hope.
Although 30% of her vision was restored, Julissa still cannot do simple things like cook, clean and drive. Moreover, she has gone through all her savings in order to pay for all of her medical procedures. She is worried about money and is concerned about her son’s college fund. He is the light of her life and she is determined to put him in the best school he deserves.
Julissa was honored to share her story of survival and recovery on the medical talk show, The Doctors. Her humble spirit, unwavering faith and belief in the power of forgiveness are truly inspiring.
