Jeff Begley and family

Campaign Created by: Angela Hall

The funds from this campaign will be received by Kristina Begley.

Goal : USD $5,000
Raised : USD $ 5,125

Jeff has been diagnosed with Stage III A Nonseminomatous Germ Cell Carcinoma AKA Stage 3 Testicular Cancer. We are starting week 3 of his 9 week aggressive treatment plan. This will take him out of work roughly 12 weeks, for treatment and ‘recovery’ as long as everything stays on target and goes as planned. He is high risk because 1) We are at stage 3, so the cancer has moved to other places in his body and 2) His prior heart condition poses concerns and tons of monitoring because of the aggressiveness of the chemo plan. Kristina will update the best she can, on Facebook.

Thank yo for your Donations and prayers.

♥️ ♥️ UPDATE ♥️♥️

We saw the oncologist yesterday. Blood work looks good. The oncologist has referred us to several surgeons which means surgery is our next step. He needs surgery on three different places on his body, and each place needs a specialty surgeon. They have to remove some things in his chest which the doctors are nervous about because of Jeff’s previous heart surgeries and scar tissue, but this is what we need to do to try and get this cancer gone. They are going to try and coordinate this to be one surgery, but that is not confirmed yet. Once everything is removed they will test all of the tissue and do more blood work. Hopefully they can get everything, it’s a possibility that he may need more chemo after the surgery but fingers crossed that won’t be the case. He was put off work for even longer now,  which he isn’t happy about, he’s ready to be normal again! Our whole family is!

Thank you to everyone who has reached out via email, text, voicemails, etc. I am working and trying to keep the household running smoothly, it’s been chaotic with the end of school fast approaching and doctors visits. I will update best I can and try to respond as best as I can. I’m updating on various platforms and trying to keep family and friends in the loop. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, I will get back to you as soon as I have down time, I’m really working on trying to be better about it all. I miss my friends, I miss ‘normal,’ but we will get there! One day at a time!

Update #15 Another bump in the road
May 11, 2022

Jeff is in tachycardia again confirmed by an EKG today. Waiting to hear from his cardiologist on what the next steps are and if they are going to do anything about it at this point. (Dr has been (‘cancer first’)

Jeff also goes for another biopsy on Thursday for the new stuff they found on the last scan.

Update #14 - Not the best news…

UPDATE:

Blood work looks decent, some things showed up on his scan that weren’t there before, and the cancer is still there, BUT overall ‘better’ than it was from the last scan 9 weeks ago (Yes, I’m confused how that could mean it’s better too) We should be hearing from the oncologist within the next couple of days on what the next steps are.

IM SAD. I knew I couldn’t prepare myself for what they were going to say, and in the office today, I CRIED.

The doctor looked at me and said ‘it’s ok to cry, we aren’t where we want to be yet, but we are better than where we were. he’s got this.’

I went into the appointment hoping to hear better news, hoping that we wouldn’t have to come back to the hospital that I’ve come all too familiar with, for several weeks, unfortunately that won’t be the case and it’s left my mind wandering. Waiting for the phone call for from the doctor. I’m inpatient and it’s tough.

Jeff is tough, gosh he’s so tough. I am supposed to be his rock, but he definitely is mine.

God has a plan. I just wish I knew what it was.

Today is the LAST scheduled chemo for Jeff! Whoo!

As we finish off the week and go into the next week, prayers are super appreciated!

Next Wednesday Jeff has a CT scan, blood work and then meets with the oncologist. This appointment will tell us if the treatment worked and what the next step would be.

We’re hoping he BEAT this cancer and it’s GONE!

He’s been such a fighter all along the way, the kids and I are so blessed to have such a strong person that we love so much!

Update #12

Last day of chemo for the week for us, we have been here every day this week, long days. It’s been rough, but looking for some time this weekend relaxing and celebrating Easter. Jeff is tolerating things well this week, he goes on Monday for his heart MRI and chemo again on Wednesday. Keep the prayers coming, we’re hoping this is the last chemo cycle, but will know more once this cycle is complete and more blood work is done, along with the CT.

Doctor called this morning to have Jeff come in for an EKG. Jeffs heart rate has been super high since December when we had Covid. The doctors originally thought it was from inflammination. Today, they told us they believe he is in tachycardia and has been for a long time. (We had a feeling for a long time this was the case since he’s been so tired) His cardiologist and oncologist will be coming up with a plan, we will let everyone know what’s going on when we do. Until then, prayers and positive thoughts appreciated, especially as we go into another week full of 8hr infusions. -- Kristina Begley

We are on day 38 of Chemo. Jeff had his second cycle blood work today, we saw the doctor and are now headed to infusion. We received GREAT NEWS today, his doctor is happy because HIS TUMOR MARKER IS WAYYY DOWN! Thank you, Lord! I was so happy I had tears in my eyes, because last blood draw wasn’t exactly the results that were expected or wanted. This means the treatment is WORKING! Jeff still has 4 more weeks of treatment currently before he gets another blood draw and a cat scan. Once those results are received we will know any further steps past May 4th. A HUGE thank you AGAIN to everyone who has helped in ANY way, bringing food, sending cards, praying, sending good vibes, donating money, making dinners, etc. There is so much kindness that has been given and I am going to be thankful for the rest of my life.

Day #29

This past week has been really tough. Like I said before, side effects of the chemo are in full force now, making the day to day hard on Jeff. Our family is getting by with all of the support of our loved ones. We have to wait 2 more weeks until the next blood draw to find out how well the chemo is working, I’m so impatient, but as my grandmother says ‘be careful praying for patience’ so I am trying to just go day by day. Jeff has been sleeping a lot, so it gets lonely, but his body needs rest, and I know that. The kids should hopefully settle back down these next two weeks as we only have 2 treatments, the everyday treatment is hard on them and their emotions too. Wednesday March 30th Jeff is scheduled to get a port, prayers would be appreciated for this, because he’s been nervous, but getting an IV into his veins is almost impossible at this point, chemo has completely blown them out. I’ll update or anything changes. I also want to post how grateful we are for all of our supporters. I am completely blown away at the generosity of people, some of whom we don’t even know. I don’t even have the right words to express the feelings I have, but just know we love you all so much and are beyond appreciative for your giving hearts and thoughts and prayers. -Kristina

Hello everyone! I haven’t updated in a while, life has been hectic, we’re all tired, but making it work. Things are moving along, Jeff’s’ blood work is looking promising, we will know more after this 3 week cycle. Side effects have kicked in over the past week and a half, they aren’t pleasant, but Jeff is managing well. The doctor is super helpful with providing things to help with them. This road is tough, there is no preparing for anything, which is rough for me, as a planner, but we are making it work! God is on our side and we need to keep that mindset. The kids are doing well, we have wonderful parents and friends who have been seeing that they get the love and attention they need, but it’s hard for them to comprehend what is happening to their dad. Until next update, keep those prayers coming!
