My name is Jonathan Ellis, and before I say anything else, I want to say, "Thank you for looking at this page".

I am coming to you today because of an opportunity that would not only change my life, but also reach a group of people that is over 90% unreached. This would be a long term, four year school and outreach program to the people of Rural Japan. The "Reaching Japan Together Ascociation" or RJTA, has selected me to be a student in their new Mission Training School, which will be opening up in March of 2022. This school is based in Iwaizumi, Japan. Iwaizumi is a small town in the mountains of Iwate prefecture as part of the northern Tohoku region. Once I am there I will be working with RJTA to provide outreach services to the people of the town and the surrounding area. The main goal with this school is to train and raise up leaders that understand the unique challenges of outreach in Japan.

Why Japan?

This is an excellent question, as from the outside, Japan looks like a country that is as modern as any other western nation, so surely they have the same church presence as the west, right? However, this is not the case. Astonishingly, Japan is home to the second-least reached people group in the world. While Tokyo is the focus of most people, around 60% of all rural municipalities in Japan lack a local church, and there are very few pastors to serve these people. To put that into a more solid number, that means there are over 1,700 municipalities that have no church to call their own.

The Mission

Starting in March 2022, a missionary training school wiill be opened up in Iwaizumi, Japan. I have been selected to be part of this class. This will involve hands-on service, conversations, and relationship building, as well as language learning. The schooling is planned to last for four (4) years. After that time, it will be expected of each of us to plant our own churches and raise our own support through "tentmaking" opperations.

What is Tentmaking?

This word does not actually refer to the construction of literal tents, but refers to the example left to us by Paul in the New Testament. He would support himself by working in his profession, and travel using that money instead of constantly relying on the Church. This in the end-goal of the mission: to be able to support myself in Japan, and to show God's power through humility and service.

Who am I?

My name is Jonathan Ellis. I am 35 years old, and this will be my first mission trip. I have felt the call from God to go to Japan since I was a child, For years, I tried to find ways to go to Japan, but things never panned out financially. I began to doubt if I was being called or if it was just my own desire to go, since I had failed so many times. However, on March 12, 2011, the day after the triple disaster hit the country's northern coast, I received a prophecy that confirmed that God was indeed sending me to Japan. Since then I have looked into various paths to move forward, with each one eventually being a closed door. Then in March of this year, ten years after the confirmation, I received an email from RJTA. I didn't think I was qualified, but following the prompting of the Spirit, I applied. Every step of the way, I braced myself for another closed door, but step after step, I was accepted. I am convinced that this is the timing that God has set aside to send me out to do the work he created me to do. He has opened this door, and has miraculously kept it open! The next step is applying for my Visa, and once the Japanese government opens their boarders, I will be moving to Japan.

Please partner with me as God is sending me to help reach the yet unreached, and introduce them to our wonderful Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
