My name is Charles S. Purcell III and I am a temporarily homeless man living in Washington, DC. I am also a homeless advocate. In March of 2015, when I became homeless, the LORD laid it on my heart to fight for those less fortunate and to raise awareness about homelessness along with educating people on the real causes that lead to a person becoming homeless rather than the misconceptions that are believed.

My story is a bit like Jonah. God had brought me out of a homeless situation in 2008. At that time I know my purpose and His will was for me to work with the homeless. I joined a local church and started volunteering in their homeless ministry. After a couple of years, I started drifting back into worldly desires and walked away from my purpose. I feel more years went by as I was doing what I wanted to do versus what God wanted me to do, He allowed circumstances to happened that found me back being homeless.

In March of 2015 as I was walking late at night, I came across a homeless woman I would see from time to time sleeping in front of a convenience store. She had a lot of things and I was wondering how she moved them in the daytime and moved them back at night. I was filled with compassion and I spoke to the Lord and said this should not be going on in the United States. We have too much wealth in this country for people to be without a home. Then I heard a small whisper speak to my spirit and say; "Now you know how I feel." It was clear and I knew it was God. At that moment everything made sense and I dedicated the rest of my life to helping the homeless.

Since then I've been doing what I can by raising money to givie away t-shirts to the homeless. Right now I need help to take things to another level and I am hoping I can count on your support. There are about 6,500 homeless people in Washington, DC. The current vision is to give away as many t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies with the message "Please Raise Awareness: #HomelessLivesMatter. I am asking people to partner with me by making a $7 donation to make this happen.

People also ask me how they can get a shirt for themselves. If you would like one you can visit the Homeless United Store and buy one of the items. There you will also find a coffee mug and a tote bag that can be purchased. The proceeds from each said goes to supply a free item to a homeless person. Pictures of the items can be found in the Gallery section. You will also find photos of some people who have received an item and are helping the cause by spreading the message.

This is the first step of a process that will eventually end up with affordable housing and the services needed to help people stay housed and end chronic homelessness. I hope I can count on your support. This is a problem we can solve if everyone just did a little bit. Mountains can be moved with mustard seed faith.

Thank you for your time and support!

April Showers bring May Flowers...

Hello everyone and Merry May!

April is gone and now we are into May. But these are extraordinary times. The weather is as unpredictable as the times we are living in. Sadly these times are hard, But extremely harder for our unhoused neighbors. The COVID19 crisis is causing a lot of strain on a system that was already heavily burdened. This is the monthly update. Last month, April, people once again went far and beyond expectaions. The organization picked was Allentown Rescue Mission in Allentown, PA.

Through Facbook fundraising, $310 was raised that will go directly to the Mission. Through private donations, there items were purchased and sent to them:

For May the organization is Pathways to Housing DC. They are also in need of supplies:

There is a Facebook fundraiser set up and any funds received directly will go to puchasing items from the wishlist and sent directly. Once again your help is needed. I know times are tough and everyone can't afford to give. But everyone can share. So I am asking you to share this fundraiser. If you can give, as little as $5 helps a whole lot. Please do what you can.

One more update. Face Masks are in the works. Hopefully I will have a proof soon. Once I receive it and approve, I will share the information.

Thank you again for your support. I appreciate from the bottom of my heart!

Charles

Update #8

Hello Everyone,

Well April is here and I wanted to update you on March. March of 2020 will gone down in history for many reasons. We are in unprecedented times. But we will get through this. It also marked the 5 year since I started down the road I'm on. I started off the month thinking about raising money to donate more t-shirts to a homeless shelter. But then God moved me in another direction. Since March was Women History Month, I choose a women's shelter in DC, N Street Village, to raise money for and also asked people to donate feminine hygiene products.

The Facebook Fundraiser raised more than $800 that went directly to the shelter. From donations Homeless United received directly, I was able to donate 1,000 maxi pads and 1,200 tampons. God is good! Also people showed up and helped.

The homeless are the most vulnerable during this time. Our government leaders are calling for us to stay home or practice social distancing, our homeless neighbors don't have the luxury. So this month the focus will be on hand sanitizer, face masks, and rubber gloves to be given to another organization that helps the homeless. The organization will be Thrive DC.

Whatever you can give will be appreciated. No gift is too small, not even $5. I know times are tough. Do what you can either by giving or sharing this update. God sees the heart and will always bless those who do what those can do from the heart. He is the source of all we have and has more than enough to supply our needs.

Thank you call for your support! Remember to use wisdom over worry and faith over fear. I pray Numbers 6:24-26 over you all.

Don't forget that #HomelessLivesMatter!

Hello Everyone!

I have been busy with  personal issues during January and February. But I am back! God is good and He is always faithful.

March marks 5 years since I started walking down this path. God has been in control all the way. I believe major growth will begin to happen this month. Thank you to everyone who has given and shared this cause. Please agree with me in prayer that a major breakthrough will happen before the end of March.

I am grateful for you all. Thank you for all of the support.

Happy New Year!

2019 is now history. 2020 is a new year and start. It will bring greater clarity and vision. A lot was accomplished in 2019. A documentary was made. A news story was done. Another donation of shirts was made to a shelter in DC. Also more raise awareness items were sent across the country.

This year more will be done. I am going to pursue two things I put on the back burner a few years ago. One is to build a strong team. The other is to get nonprofit status. The work is never ending. I am thankful for the guidance I have received from the Holy Spirit. God is good and I know He is in control. So I press on and do what I can know God will do the rest.

I am grateful for all the support I have received over the years. My determination has not wavered. Actually I am more determined than ever. God has everything worked out. I look forward to see what this year will bring. I believe a new chapter has begun. My prayer is that you will continue to come along for the ride.

Have a blessed and prosperous new year!

Update #4
December 3, 2019, 12:30 pm
facebook twitter

Hello All!

I can't believe it is December all ready. Soon in a few short days we will be bringing in a new year, 2020. Some of you may know that I was on the news in November. I was able to share the message and cause to a broad audience. Since then, activity has really picked up. God is definitely in control and His timing is perfect.

In November 14 orders were placed and 12 of them were through the eCommerce site. Two were made possible by the proceeds and today, December 3rd, I was able to place the first bulk donation of shirts for 2019. The shirts will be going to Christ House. They are a medical homeless shelter in DC. They do great work there. I am hoping and praying one more will at least be able to be made before the end of the year.

Thank you all for your support. But your help is needed to make another donation possible. Please share this update with your friends and family. Sharing is just as important as giving.

I will be back in January with another update. Sooner if something major happens before then. Take care and have a very merry Christmas!

Hello Everyone!

Well this happened:

DC homeless man is on a mission to care for other homeless people https://wjla.com/news/local/homeless-man-mission

On November 21, 2019 this story aired on WJLA 7 in Washington, DC. I have been praying and hoping for this kind of exposure and it finally happened. God is good and the response has been overwhelming. God truly does answer prayer and He is always on time.

Please take a moment and view the story. Also don't forget to share it with family and friends. Don't forget Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any other social media platform you're on.

Thank you for your support and I will be back in December with an update on November.

Update #2

Below is a text message I received on November 16, 2019. This is why your support is so desperately needed. I am sending them 2 hoodies. They live in Atlanta, GA. If you can help with a small gift to cover the costs, it would be appreciated. Also, please share this either through social media or email.

Thank you again and have a great day on purpose!

Update #1
November 4, 2019, 2:24 pm

Hello Everyone!

Happy November! We will be bringing in a new year in about 6 weeks. Seems like yesterday when we said  hello to this year. Time does fly by and it seems to be going by faster and faster.

October was another month of growth.  6 Raise Awareness T-shirts were either purchased or given away. One Hoodie was purchased and one Coffee Mug was given away. It is the donations along with the proceeds of sales that help make the give-a-ways possible.

I am excited about some things that are going on behind the scenes that will make larger give-a-ways possible. I had always been the dream to blanket the DC area with items saying "Please Raise Awareness: #HomelessLivesMatter". Support was very slow in the beginning. But over the past few months momentum has been building.

I will make the request to please share this fundraiser with friends and family. Let them know you believe in the cause and they should join you in lending their support. I would really appreciate that. Also, thank you to everyone who gave this month. Without your support what took place in October couldn't have happened. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Please check out the Gallery section. More photos are being added continually.
